"LimeWire is safe and very FAST at downloading music"

by goldengreeke on June 25, 2006

Pros: I noticed the last two reviewers were complaining about viruses in the software files. LimeWire is safe if you know what you are doing. I am going to explain one more time how to use Limewire. LimeWire has TONS of search results, TONS of hosts, and lightning fast downloads. With broadband you can download 50 popular songs in about 10 minutes or less. Some songs take less than 10 seconds! You can also chose which host has the fastest connection to download from. T3 is the fastest, followed by T1, Cable/ DSL, and Modem. LimeWire is also very good at finding Full length feature films, videos, games, and software products. LimeWire Has no ads or popups to distract you. If you are downloading just music, you shouldn't have any problems. But if you are downloading games, movies, or other software products, try to know the correct size, and NEVER download a file that is smaller than 1 MB. It will be a virus. Also never download an exe file..only RAR files, and always scan with your virus protection. Some of these small virus files are sent by the publishers,( because they feel we should buy their product instead of getting it for free) , and some by sick perks who think it is a joke to give you a virus. As far as spyware, most p2p apps are considered spyware by many antispy programs. If your spy cleaner detects LimeWire as spyware...just uncheck the box or add it to the always ignore list, sometimes called the White list. Hope this answers your questions. Happy Downloading! goldengreeke

I left out a zero. 1000 Km = 1 MB Actually it is 1024. to be exact

  • reply by: goldengreeke on June 7, 2007

100 KB, make 1 MB. If the video has 100KB, it contains a virus.

  • reply by: latasha444 on June 6, 2007

so you said never download a file smaller than 1 MB, so does that mean i can't download music videos? because there all KB?? thanks.

Something is blocking it, most likely your firewall settings. Disable your firewall and see if all the bars show, if so you have to reconfigure your firewall settings to always allow LimeWire as a trusted program.

Can you tell me I always seem to have 4 red bars on bottom left and only 1 green one? It is not loading up songs like it used to either. Sinc eyou are such a limewire boffin can you tell me what's going on? Thanks

Microsoft seems to be taking special pride in making Vista "secure" (more so than ever before). And they love the concept of DRM. While I don't know for a fact, I would not be at all surprised to learn that MS has done everything in their power to disable P2P programs such as Limewire.

Oh, to the many who are asking... the best place to download any shareware is ALWAYS at the site of the company that makes it, if it exists. In this case it does - it's the obvious wwwDOTlimewireDOTcom (CNet won't allow it in standard form). It is completely free, with the exception of the "nag" dialog box when it first loads.

does it work with vista? I can seem to get it to work

  • reply by: goldengreeke on April 10, 2007

After you have downloaded a file, RIGHT click on it. A baloon will pop up with some options in it, one of which is,"scan for viruses". Click and scan, that's all. If it has a virus, delete the file, if it doesn't, open or save.

So i have no idea what im doing when it coms to computers but when i download the songs and look for them in my files theres 1000's of zipper something files as well ive only had the program for two days and have downloaded like 20 songs, is this normal?

  • reply by: mkylman on December 23, 2006

    Most of the people that are using LimeWire DON'T know what they're doing, otherwise they wouldn't be using LimeWire; Not only that, but torrents are so much more efficient and you can get way more sources than with LimeWire, especially considering that LimeWire only lets you connect to 8 sources unless you pay for the pro version of the software; But torrents are definitely the way to go because there is NO CHANCE AT ALL that there will be a virus, unless you are literally downloading a worm; So my opinion is screw LimeWire and switch to Azureus and isohunt.com;

where do u think is best to download flims from mate?

  • reply by: MagnoliaSouth on November 8, 2006

Totally DISAGREE with you! No one, and I mean NO ONE has any right, whatsoever, to purposely destroy the property of someone else. I don't care what the reason is behind it, but it is against the law PERIOD.

What you're saying is that if my neighbor takes my shovel without asking, then it's okay for me to bust my neighbor's headlights in return.

Your opinion is offensive and just plain stupid.

When choosing a file for download, before you do.....right click on the file and go on blitzi websearch.....you'll then get more information on that particular item, and if it is worth downloading or even malicious.

    Have fun

as goldengreeke was saying at the top the reason publishers put fake programs with viruses on limewire is because they dont want people getting there programs for free. I mean if you spent the best part of 1 to 2 years designing and testing your program, and also putting alot of money into making it, wouldnt you be slightly pissed off if someone just bought one copy and then gave it to millions of people for just nothing. In my opinion the publishers have the right to put viruses on p2p networks as long as its named as their program. Its the only way to prevent people from stealing their programs simple as.

recently limewire is being sued so if u have ANY intentions in using this product for downloading copy written software, music, or video files i'd recommend not.

"The use of this software condones an illegal action?!!"

The software is perfectly legal, even if some of it uses are not.

"Downloading MP3's and Movies is "ILLEGAL!" I can not beleave CNET would even put this on their web site."

Why wouldn't they, as I said the software it's self is legal.

"P2P is a great idea if used legally, but to many smacktards, too cheap and lazy too get jobs to buy legal music and movies have ruined it for the rest of the world."

I blame the RIAA and big record companies. They've been giving customers the shaft for years (even before the original Napster). Lets not forget they were convicted two seperate times for price fixing and Sony just recently settled with NY for payola which is illegal. Then there is the over reaching DRM, that they admit isn't about stopping commercial pirates or technically savvy users, it's aimed at people like the grandma who just got her first PC.

"I am a pc tech and i remove P2P software from 9 out 10 computers that i work on everyday because they are doorways for hackers and viruses to get into your system. The only safe way to use P2P networks now is not to use them. "

Windows and IE are a door way for hackers and viruses. A fresh install of Windows XP put on the internet without patches is compromised on average in less than an 30 minutes. The only safeway to use to Windows is not use it.

  • reply by: goldengreeke on August 6, 2006

I have downloaded Gigs of music and never contacted a virus. Downloading music is safe. As far as getting rid of a virus on a Mac... I don't own a Mac, nor do I know anyone personally that has one that ever contacted a virus.

  • reply by: Grace Jee on August 5, 2006

do you know any good sites that have the sizes of songs on there so I won't accidently download a virius?

also, what happens if a Mac gets a virus because they don't have ways to scan them.

  • reply by: goldengreeke on June 28, 2006

Without me actually knowing your os, it's hard to tell. It could be a spycleaner's "real protection", your firewall settings, or your java isn't installed. You need to check your settings on your firewall to "always alow", and your "realtime" protection, the same. Also you need the latest java.

I have tried downloading limewire and it keeps saying we have encountered an error and must close. whats up with that?

  • reply by: Xahi4475 on June 25, 2006

Absolutely I agree. Only I don't like Java interface even in Windows XP theme. I wish to be LimeWire special edition only for Windows without Java (like Opera Browser).
