    "I love this!"

    Version: LifeShaker 1.2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I use the categories as areas of my life i.e. Health, Spirituality, Home, etc. and the goals and steps accordingly. I get to see the big picture that way. The way LifeShaker prints out has turned my life around as I no longer avoid looking at my task lists, etc. because not only does LifeShaker show different ones each time but I like looking at the little booklet--it's pretty and cute and non-threatening. :-) I will pay for this with glee when my trial period is over.

    "Puts you to work FAST"

    May 14, 2008   |   By Lizz2

    Version: LifeShaker 1.2.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
My foray into finding the perfect task/to-do manager began when I realized that it was very difficult to print my task and calendar from iCal in the size I needed and that the task list was useless for really helping me.

I downloaded this program and organized my tasks immediately using the three basic principles I learned from being forced to understand something about the ubiquitous Getting Things Done Model, GTD: Today, Next, and Someday. Bada Bing. LifeShaker fit the bill because I needed a list of what I have to do right away, followed by what comes next. I needed to organize this list TODAY, not have it ready the NEXT day or Some day, and the Context was Everything. In minutes---really--I had organized my list, it was in pretty colors, and I could easily print a copy to take with me. Yes, it might be nice to archive my lists, but that's really all I'm missing.

I'm not familiar with GTD and found the other programs, from Life Balance at the more confusing end to Task Paper at the more elegant, easy-to-use end too much for me to incorporate. But the deeper theories of GTD were slowing me down. I liked TP the best and if I learn more about GTD may go back there. The program Things seemed a good mix of GTD and basic organization, but it seems lost in Beta with stated warnings that the program may change drastically. Perhaps this is a standard disclaimer, but added to my concern is that a question to the developer went unanswered.

People like me who really procrastinate (like by writing this review) need to pull all the pieces together fast, with no excuses. Previewing those other programs took precious time. I hope to save you some trouble. The reviews that I read about the other programs were helpful to me. Since most of the reviews seemed to be from GTD devotees, I thought I'd chime in as one unfamiliar with it, but one who still needs a good list that is flexible and portable. The developers created a straight forward program that is actually fun to use, which is always a good thing.

Until I find the program that helps me stay focused on what I need to do, syncs seamlessly with iCal, archives my completed items, prints easily, and reminds me via iCal when I need to hop to it, I'm sticking with LifeShaker. It's pretty cool. Functional, Fun, and Easy to Use.

"Needs improvement or should lower its cost"

    Version: LifeShaker 1.0.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This program made me think at the crews of "conquistadores" that traded clinging and colored beads [colored basic list and rattling sounds] with natives, against rich and valuable resources [my own 29 bucks]. While the program tries to place its value in its simplicity, lack of critical features [for me] such as no printing capability and one single installation per license [I can't transfer all of those cute lists onto my laptop when I travel??!!] have left me with that terrible taste as when coffee is mistakenly sweetened with salt ... In my opinion, it needs some additional basic features to provide that value consistent with its current cost.

"interesting but buggy and not very 'Mac'."

    Version: LifeShaker 1.0.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
LifeShaker is indeed an interesting 'to do' application, but that's as far as it gets (for me anyway). Not only is LifeShaker buggy (I kept on getting fatal errors when trying to change categories in the Goals list- LifeShaker just wants to shut down, and there's no way to send bug reports, or report bugs from the app itself), but it's also not very Mac-like. Yes LifeShaker is easier to use than so called 'complex apps', but at least those 'complex apps' will integrate with iLife/iWork applications, LifeShaker seems to be very much in a world of its own (you can't drag visual clues like photos or tablet scribbles etc to the squares either). Yes, having all those boxes that move around seems like a fun idea, however I suppose I wouldn't grumble so much if it wasn't so expensive either, but $29 seems an awful lot of money for something that doesn't speak with the outside world, and appears to have bugs. It would be nice if there was a way of integrating this with iCal too :)

    "I'm Picky But This Rocks"

    Version: LifeShaker 1.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am nearly obsessive about productivity software. For me, there is nothing out there even close to what I'm looking for in a suite form that meets my many needs. LifeShaker is by far the best prioritization piece I've found thus far in my more than a decade of careful searching. I am likely the most diversified "plate spinner" (ala the Sullivan Show) person you will ever meet. Thus the need to track lots of products. Software usually far too complex to be useful - those types tend to be for left brained folk - maybe they should be writing code for Windows OS... This is just right.

Very nice and interesting approach to GTD, easy and simple interface, pretty useful app over all...! A German localization would be nice though...!? :)
(Actually I think any app that costs more than around 20$ should have German, French and at least one more language included...but that's another subject anyway...)
