    "Can't live without it."

    Version: LaunchBar 4.3.7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am so used to LaunchBar that I try to type application names on other computers that don't have it installed, and can't figure out why it's not working. This is a great application that just keeps getting faster. I don't need most of the fancy functions, but it's nice to know that they are there. As some have pointed out, Spotlight functions in a similar manner. However, it is not as quick, not as accurate, and does not allow for custom items or pruning of items. I can't use my Mac without LaunchBar.

"LaunchBar and Spotlight Are Not Competitors"

    April 7, 2008  |   By Toadling

    Version: LaunchBar 4.3.7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I don't agree with thebroz's criticisms. Sure, Spotlight is nice. It's come a really long way and certainly plays an important role in Mac OS X. I use it all the time. But if you think it obsoletes LaunchBar, you're missing the point and probably haven't fully explored what LaunchBar can do.

First off, Spotlight and LaunchBar are not competitors, they're complimentary. Despite some overlap, they're really designed to do very different things. While Spotlight excels at full-content searches of your entire hard drive, LaunchBar excels at adaptable, name-based, abbreviation searches and manipulation of your most frequently-used items.

As for not finding the built-in scripts, have you looked in LaunchBar's Configuration window? They're all listed in there.

I've been using LaunchBar for a couple years now and love its stability, reliability, unobtrusiveness, and versatility. It's a key component in my workflow (along with Spotlight).

    "Can't/Won't Go On Without This..."

    February 22, 2008  |   By MightyDoggy

    Version: LaunchBar 4.3.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
When this latest update came out today, I realized for the first time for just how long I'd been using LaunchBar -- and how integrated into and essential to my computering it had become.

My config uses the default Command-Space combo (with Spotlight's shortcut turned off) and whatever I need -- whether it's an application, a contact (or just certain info from a contact, like their number) or a bookmark, LaunchBar is completely indispensable.

I know there are alternatives out there -- like QuickSilver (and, I think, Butler) -- and every once in a while I'll turn off LaunchBar and try their latest. I've always come back to LB after feeling like the others were either sluggish (especially on old(er) computers) or just over-the-top.

LaunchBar feels like Spotlight Plus; it's a natural fit to the OS and it makes getting around on the computer and getting things done so much easier... and faster.

If I sound like an evangelist, I guess maybe I am -- it's been six or seven years (holy crap) that I've been Launching Bars left and right... and I couldn't be happier.

Never actually left a comment before... thought it was about time.

    Thanks.

    "A must-have"

    February 21, 2008  |   By dsphelps

    Version: LaunchBar 4.3.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I think this was the first shareware program I bought when I purchased an ibook and installed OS X a few years ago. Since then, it's set to open at log in so it's always available. I've gotten so used to it being there, I'm feel at a loss when using a machine without it. There is a massive amount of different things that can be opened with LaunchBar--I probably use 5% of its total capability. I think any power user would love this program.

There is nothing can touch LaunchBar for its power and ease of use. I've tried all of them (Quicksilver, Butler, Dragthing, etc.) but LB has never left my Doc.

The best at what it does - PERIOD.

    "Keeps Getting Better"

    Version: LaunchBar 4.3.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used LaunchBar for a couple years now, taking a few breaks along the way to try out the competition. But I always come back to LaunchBar. Others may have even more features, but LaunchBar does nearly as much and with a much greater degree of elegance and simplicity. It's proven to be a rock-solid, reliable companion on my MacBook Pro. I love it.

I have used LaunchBar for years, and I could not use my mac without it. It allows me to work much faster. I tried Quicksilver, but, I feel LaunchBar is the better product. I would pay for this over and over again, nothing beats it.

    "By far the best!"

This baby rocks! Regardless if you're not solely sold on the idea of mainly using your keyboard to launch apps, run scripts, etc., this application has so much usefulness it's not funny.

And if you do prefer mouse clicks, having this alongside gives you the best of both worlds.

This is by far my favorite mac tool. Buy it, you won't regret it!
