You will be able to recover the lost passwords that guard your Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, as long as they're short (thanks to trial restrictions) and you have some time on your hands.
Excel Password's interface is bogged down with information about methods of password recovery and links to learn more about Brute Force recovery, dictionary attack methods, express recovery, and other methods. We successfully used the featured automatic recovery option. With it, the program determines what it thinks is the best method to recoup your passwords. The user-defined route is especially useful if you know the password length, starting and ending characters, or letter casing, although it was slow, considering the short passwords it turns up.
The demo program only shows passwords up to three characters in length; any longer and it tells you to buy Excel Password. Its touted guaranteed recovery method is unavailable until you purchase the full version. We didn't care for weaving through all of the documentation on recovery methods, but Excel Password slowly proved its competence for finding lost passwords.

Pros: Seems to be working to crack an Excel 2007 open password on a Core i7 920 at 200 passwords/sec.
Cons: Horrible support! (See the bottom-line summary for details)
Can't get it working on my NVIDIA CUDA GPU set up. It'd be nice to have a bunch of stream processors working on this file as well.Summary: I've purchased this software (version 12 in November 2009) direct from LastBit but couldn't get it working on my GPU, even though I met all the written requirements.
