"Refuses to install on Windows 7 (64-bit)"
Version: Lame Front-End 1.4
Pros
None because it won't install for me to try it.
Cons
It won't install on my windows 7 (64-bit) system.
No installation guide.Summary
An installation guide would have been nice, especially as it would have assured me if I'd done everything correct. However, there are just two .exe files in this download, and I tried running both just to make sure.
I unpacked the downloaded files and ran the installation file (Lfe.exe) and it wouldn't install, and it wouldn't run. What I kept getting was an alert saying: Exception ERegistryException in module Lfe.exe at 0002525B. Failed to set data for ".

"Just what I needed!"
Version: Lame Front-End 1.3
Pros
I need good compression (about 16) for speech and this is so simple to use. It allows custom bit rates from 8 to 320 using a slider.
Cons
I wish it could rip direct from a CD, which is how we do our live recordings. Now I need to rip the CD to WAV before MP3 conversion.
Summary
It's good that, unlike Audacity, you don't have to separately install LAME. Audacity is certainly for the "power user", but this software can't be beat if all you want is a user-friendly interface for simple MP3 output. For my needs, it's better than the Pazera Free Audio Extractor as I couldn't figure out how to set low bit rates with that one.

"Very helpful for batch conversion to mp3."
Version: Lame Front-End 1.3
Pros
I have only used it to convert wav to mp3, but so far it has worked well. You do have to specify where the lame.exe file is located. This software provides a graphical, user interface; it does not actually encode by itself.
Cons
The help file was not helpful.
Summary
I was looking for a small program that could do batch encoding. This does that well, and it is also relatively easy to change important settings.

"Awesome sauce!"
Version: Lame Front-End 1
Pros
An excellent front-end for Lame with a plain, functional, easy to use GUI, I?m impressed.
Lame.exe is already installed, *no need to hunt for it and Lame FE 1 does use the current 3.97 full release* writes ID3 v2 tags for mp3 output and supports drag and drop. There are two modes, simple and expert. The automatic simple mode won?t satisfy most users but the expert mode is so easy to switch to and use, after switching just click on LAME/load LAME settings and make your choice before using the tabbed LAME settings option. The expert mode is definitely one of the easiest I?ve ever used.
I thoroughly recommend Lame FE 1 to anyone who wants to use Lame with minimum hassle, it?s great. =)

Version: Lame Front-End 1
Pros
Highly customizable.
Allows for much better mp3 encoding
than anything else I've found.
Cons
I wish mp3»mp3 transcoding were possible.

"NICE!"
Version: Lame Front-End 1
Pros
Can't believe nobody has reviewed this program in one year -- it's great! Very well done and complete -- simple to use.
Polish and English interfaces.
Includes compiled LAME 3.97.
Cons
Automatic Tag population from file name would be nice. Does not populate ID3Tag V.1 fields.
Help files in Polish only.
