Although it can cause your PC to run a bit sluggish, this program effectively recovers forgotten user passwords for your Windows system. LCP's functional interface is easy enough to use and understand. The program uses several password-recovery techniques, such as brute force, hybrid, and dictionary attacks, to quickly and accurately recover lost administrator passwords. To improve retrieval time, you set the minimum and maximum length of characters, character sets (letters, digits, and special characters), and combination range. First try the dictionary attack when you have used a meaningful word for your password. You can also use other dictionaries and check all possible lowercase and uppercase combinations. We noticed system slowdown during the recovery session, but LCP quickly and accurately recovered our administrator passwords. If you could not afford l0phtcrack (which is no longer available for sale) or a few other hash file crack programs, this is definitely worth the money. Armed with some good dictionary files, and knowledge of how hash files work, I have found it can crack nearly every password l0phtcrack can.
It affectively audits user passwords, which can be imported from the local machine directly, or remotely, as well as import db formated or text formated hash tables recovered by pwdump and others.
It blows my mind this product is free. If you use this program professionally, I higly recommend you make a donation. Since it will easily save you hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on the number of users stored in AD. If you use it for your own use, take the time to at least donate $10.00
I've downloaded many programs from this and other shareware/freeware sites. This is the first time I've ever been compelled to write a review, until now.

Cons
Overall the program runs slower than l0phtrack, however if you are using WinXP or Win Server 2003, you can go into Task Manager, highlight the process and select a higher priority, which greatly improves the speed (you probably aren't going to run anything else on the machine anyhow, while using this application).
After importing users and hashes, you cannot clean up (delete) users/hashes. I always like to cleanup and remove system accounts, other misc users, or in the case of LM hashes... remove those who have passwords greater than 14 characters.

Pros
LCP enabled me to recover a lost administrator password, speeding the job by allowing me to input what I did know about the password. The user interface is easy to figure out, the program is faster than another I tried. Great price, too.
