Version: Komi 1.0
"Retro, simple, addictive, frog-a-licious action!"
Pros: Simple customizable controls, 2D retro graphics, addictive not-exactly-shooting action, customizable soundtrack (not sure why exactly).
I can imagine the creator, Mr. Allan Crossman, telling his friends about his new game. "So, you're this frog, see? You use your tongue to... uh... grab coins... yeah, but, get this... it's in space," as he fans his hands, eyes wide with wonder.
Ok, soooo the premise might be a bit shaky, but it's not some epic roleplaying game with a story or anything. It's silly action.
I absolutely LOVE the fact that it's actually important to the game play that you're a frog. Not a frog = no tongue = no way to snag stuff. Frogger could've been a bunny named Hopper, right?
Good "ramp up" in difficulty levels with new enemies popping up. I dislike when games are SO easy for SO long that I get bored before getting to any challenging/interesting parts.
Game hints:
1. Golden/yellow coins & diamonds = nummy, green things = various powerups, pretty much everything else = kills poor Komi on contact (NOOOooo!). Sorry, Circle of Life still applies in space. ;-) Komi's main vulnerability is his greatest asset, yup, that big ol' tongue.
2. There's a time limit of sorts; an electrical barrier moves ominously down the screen toward our hero.
3. When you see a new enemy, watch it for a bit to figure out what it does.
4. Be careful near the edge of the screen, since baddies might suddenly appear!
5. Nabbing stuff when it's low on the screen is safer.
6. Komi retracts that sticky tongue (before it's all the way out) if you press the same button that extends it.
Cons: Resource hog! My PowerBook G4 with OS 10.3.9, 1.33Ghz, 768MB RAM had notable slowdowns sometimes. Of course, it only adds to the retro nostalgia for me, since I remember simple games taxing the limits of my earlier computers. (So if need a new game for when you wait for something to download or burn a DVD, this ain't your game.)
The game includes only a brief set of instructions, so you won't know exactly what to 'lick' until you try. Must be Komi's first time in space. Ah, but Space Frogs learn pretty quickly what's good to eat. ;-) Of course, see my hints above.

"Terribly addictive, innovate game."
Summary: This game is terribly addictive, needs concentration and the author is unquestionably very innovative. If I was to see any new features I would like to see this game for two players, but also support special characters in high score, like "ð" and "... read more

""Don't listen to these hypocrites, Neo.""
Summary: Many of the review of this product are very negative, and very undeserved. Sure this game is somewhat unpolished, but hey, it's still a blast! I had a lot of fun with it, since it takes quite a bit of quick planning, looking to all sides of the board... read more

"My son and I think it's a cool game!"
Summary: Not the flashiest game, but it makes you think, and these days we need more of that! The graphics are cute and the music is good. Yes, it's kind of hard, but that's part of the charm.
Keaton and I give it a thumbs up! read more
