"Very bad software for kindle pc"

    September 12, 2010  |   By Terri1657

Version: Kindle for PC 1.5.0 build 32337

    Pros

Supposed to be a highlighter and note maker. Wave the mouse with left side held down and right click to highlight in yellow. Sounds to simple to be true. Because it is not true with Kindle for PC. When you do that sometimes you get SEARCH STUPID dumb

    Cons

Highlight a phrase in a paragraph and the right clieck will search for that phrase in the very paragraph that you are reading. It is supposed to highlight and note but only randomly does that. Yes it searches for what you are reading. Is that dumb?

    Summary

This software went out untested and is deficient. With all the available unemployed people in the US economy you think they could have hired a few tech guys to run the software before selling this to people.

    "Cannot access Kindle book store"

    August 29, 2010  |   By deadleg2

Version: Kindle for PC 1.5.0 build 32337

    Pros

Nothing--I cannot access the Kindle store, so this is useless to me.

    Cons

I have installed, un-installed, several times and I cannot get the Kindle store function to work. Everything else works on my late model PC, but this app does not work. Completely useless.

    Summary

I loved my Kindle when I got it a few weeks ago, (6" white model with 3G) until a few days ago when the upper right hand corner suddenly blurred on every book I have. The blurred area is about the size of a large postage stamp and is completely unreadable. Now I have a $260 e-book reader that is useless. I would like a replacement--how do I get one? Surely this gadget should last longer than a couple of weeks! Help!!

"Good for most Books; but lacks some implementations"

    August 3, 2010  |   By elrosoronra

Version: Kindle for PC 1.5.0 build 32337

    Pros

You can buy kindle books from amazon without having a kindle and read them in your PC, anywhere in the world and in seconds. Great!

It accepts .mobi and .prc formats.

    Cons

First, if you are thinking of reading those classic scientific books, like einstein's relativity theory or alike, forget about it. They are unreadable: no equations and text is completely messed up.

It lacks search and zoom functions.

    Summary

It's a great product for those that don't have a kindle or like to read on PC, but it lacks basic functions and have compatibility issues, specially with free scientific content.

"Kindle for PC is worth every cent you pay for it"

    July 21, 2010  |   By mikeheinemann

Version: Kindle for PC 1.5.0 build 32337

    Pros

    Plain text is good.

    Cons

Figures, tables, graphs, and charts are all mutilated: the text is too small to be legible on even a hi def screen and cannot be enlarged. This renders many books totally useless.

No search feature, no scroll, no pan, no zoom, no nothing.

    "Good.... but ...."

    July 10, 2010  |   By cool_mangoshake

Version: Kindle for PC 1.5.0 build 32337

    Pros

    Easy to use
Gives you what it says... ability to read ebooks from a particular proprietary format.
You can change the background etc.

    Cons

    Incompatible with any other format.
Conversion from .txt (as provided by gutenberg ) is full of hassles.

    Summary

    I had more cons...
Not all books are available to buy in all countries. So no point in using software if half the books are not available to me.

YOU cant select any part of the text ( to look it up in say wikipedia or wordweb) and it isnt compatible with wordweb. So to look up a word i have to type it out rather than use the hotkey or c<trl+c ctrl+v> intowordweb to get the meaning. I can understand them not making it compatible with a free desktop dictionary software that they never heard of, but i certainly need to be able to copy at least part of the text. Imagine not being able to quote Douglus adams even though you have the Hitchhikers ebook.

I keep getting a popup every now and then to register... but i am not sure i want to keep it, so i am not going to register.

SUMMARY : Never used the kindle, perhaps people who have the device need it, but there are better options available for PC users. Am going to try Calibre now...
But iI am giving up on this s/w cos i have specific requirements ( Compatibility with multiple formats ranging from text/pdf/doc/rtf/perhaps even .lit and .pdb )
