An effective tool for using hot keys to recall commonly used words of phrases, this powerful text replacement program offers a bevy of extras, though a calendar tool suffers from an error. KeyText sits on your system tray, waiting for the correct hot key or click to plug in boilerplate text. The program's extensive tutorial explains the myriad options.
Simply put, you place text in fields that you recall with a hot key or through a simple click. The tabbed Edit interface makes it very easy to type in the text that you want to recall. You can use simple variable functions to automatically insert places, dates, and other select data.
We emphasize that this is one program you'll want to study to discover all the functions. After doing so, you'll find yourself easily creating helpful items. In fact, you may find yourself identifying all the text you type often and placing it in one of the hot keys. There is no limit to the amount of text stored in each hot key, but the program offers only 20 hot keys in the demo. In addition to simple text placement, the program can open dialog boxes to display information or accept simple input. One function finds the average of a list of numbers, but the included program to figure the day of the week for a selected date returns the wrong day.
KeyText includes a very helpful onscreen keyboard that simplifies entering symbols and foreign-language characters. We really liked the Smart Select feature that uses selected text to open a Web site, start an e-mail, or look up the phrase in Google. It's easy to reprogram the feature to use your favorite search engine. Novices to advanced users will find this program flexible, useful, and easy to personalize.

Version: KeyText 3.07
"Definitely worth the shareware fee"
Pros: Another memory-resident utility that I use constantly to insert repetitive text into any application, e.g. usernames, credit card numbers (yes, it's password-protected and encrypted), email addresses, html tags, etc etc etc. Macros and variables are particularly useful.
Cons: No complaints!

Version: KeyText 3.07
"Good product, terrible company"
Pros: It does what it says. You can program it to automatically type combinations of keys and mouse movements. It's reliable and has a lot of combinations to program.
Cons: A ripoff. I spent $30 on this software a couple of years ago, and now, when I try to install their latest version, the old key doesn't work with it. But the old version is now unavailable, so you're stuck paying twice for the software.
Summary: I'll never buy anything from these people again. You can't find the old version anywhere because they've removed it or replaced it with V3. If you had an old key and didn't keep a copy of the software in a backup somewhere, you're out of luck, you h... read more >>
