"Did what other programs claimed they could but couldn't"

    January 30, 2010  |   By murbag

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

Nice interface. Quick scan of drive. Scan is very thorough.

    Cons

Selecting the back button will require you to rescan your drive if you don't save the scan first. Should have a warning.
Video files take some time to recover.

    Summary

After trying a dozen other programs trying to recover data from a severely corrupted drive, this is the only program that was able to recover the files.
Simply stated; it gets the job done.

"took longer than other product & ultimately didn't work"

    May 25, 2009  |   By mikwarleo

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

    cheaper than many programs

    Cons

-hangs when trying to recover various files
-interfaces is simplistic and not very user friendly especially when trying to recover a lot of date
-didnt recover many files where another program did flawless and much quicker

    Summary

I tried this full version, it took 1-2 hours to complete scan and then wouldn't recover many of my files.
In comparsion I acheived complete data recovery using GetDataBack after a scan of 3 mins and about 1 hour transferring files. Don't bother with this program. Start with something good first like GetDataBack.

    "Worth it's weight in gold"

    May 13, 2008  |   By datarecoveryreview

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

I had a hard drive that would no longer boot. Windows XP would not recognize it. I found this software on download.com . It took some time to find the files. I had over a year's worth of personal data on this drive.

The demo let me see the files that could be recovered. I also verified the files recovery quality by double clicking on them. I was able to open almost all the files in the demo.

I bought the program immediatley and got my serial number.I successfully recovered all my required data It was really easy and intuitive to do. Best $69 I ever spent!

    Cons

    Nothing like that.

    "Shady Company - Wouldn't Buy"

    May 3, 2008  |   By yodabuddy

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

The trial version worked great, until you actually want to recover something.

    Cons

I downloaded the trial version of the software to recover some corrupt files. It appeared to find them so I bought the full version to recover the files. Not only did they double charge me for the software, but the password they sent me for access rights did not even work.

Ever time I emailed them about the double charge, they would tell me that it would be taken care of shortly. It was never taken care of, and now it's too late for my CC company to recover the loss.

    "It WORKS, when others didn't."

    April 8, 2008  |   By tcat01

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

I had a bad sector on a SAT drive that locked it up (dskchk would stop, as would most other utilities). I took it to a local "Computer Nerdz", they tried recovery for 2 days, charged me $59, and said "it stops and can't get anything off it". Said to try a HD recover place ($300 minimum).

So I tried all the freeware here, and nothing worked (some got "some" files, but didn't keep file names. Downloaded this trial, and the ability to set the start and stop sector, allowed it to "see" after the bad sector. It found tons of stuff, so I paid my $49.00 (NTFS version), and after running for 6 hours found and recovered what I was looking for, about 5000 photo files from the past year I hadn't backed up (learned my lesson there!), all with correct folders and names. It did mess up a few .jpgs (which were probably already messed up), but all my original CR2 files and .jpg originals look great. The trail will show you if you can recover anything. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!

    Cons

Not to easy to figure out. To get best recovery setting number of sectors to check at one time to a minimum helps keep it from stopping on a bad sector, but also increases run time a lot. Trial runs very slow (probably has setting to minimum), once you buy it, seems to run much faster.

"Company has unreliable software and won't refund your money."

    August 2, 2007  |   By UProf

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Cons

I tried their Kernel for PST. It was a complete disaster. It did not do what it claimed do it. For instance, it botched ALL my contacts. And they are giving me the runaround on a refund. I fear the results will be similar for all their software.

    "Great Product"

    January 27, 2006  |   By Dave Farera

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

I accidently deleted the partitions on my USB backup drive(Which was my only backup ).It had 3 years of backup of my emails and documents. I found Kernel on download.com . I downloaded the demo and tried my luck with it. I was lucky. The Demo showed me that the data is still intact, only the partition information was missing. I bought the software online and the activation key was emailed to me with in next few minutes.

After an hour or so i was actually able to recover all of my data.

If you are in the same situation, than give it a try.

    Cons

I didn't found any reseller of their product.

"1 easy to use app, $79, look on wife's face when I saved 10K+ jpegs, priceless"

    December 28, 2005  |   By linzbach

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

    1) Super easy to use - good trial that shows you what you can expect to recover

    2) Found content on a corrupt hard drive that was giving me a formatting error

    3) Recovered over 10,000 photos of the kids I thought we gone forever

    4) Worth every penny

    Cons

The only thing I wish it included was a Total Count of the number of files it was in the process of saving and copying to the new location. It provides a status bar for each individual file, but not the overall job.

"Yes, It really, really works! Worth it!"

    November 30, 2005  |   By OldSkoolBill

    Version: Kernel for FAT-NTFS 4.03

    Pros

I had my "C" drive crash. Fortuately I had a Ghost backup on another disk. But I didn't pay attention and instead of running the diagnostics on the bad disk I hit the good one. Only the first few meg were "zeroed" but that's enough to confuse Windows. Using this program got back every essential file. The freeware version (you download here) sees if you still have files on your disk, you have to buy the full version to actually recover the files - so they save you spending any $$$ unless the program will find something. Note: you only need the full version for NTFS or DOS not both (unless you're actually running both on your PC). So the final price is $49 not $79. Well worth it, my wife didn't leave me!

    Cons

2 reasons didn't get 5 stars. The "save disk scan" feature never worked for me, this means if you try to recover different folders over a couple days you have to re-scan your whole disk (only took about 30-40 minutes for my 60G). Also, no "smarts" about folders: if it can't find a folder's name (but has files in it) it names it DirXXX (XXX = 1 to 999). A small amount of AI could make the folder's name "Word 2000 Files" if that's what the majority of files in the folder are. A folder with "photoshop.exe" and a bunch of sample images is probably the Photoshop folder right? But hey, small beefs compared to being able to recover all my wife's students' report cards!
