"The best kind of protection you will ever need. Period."

    April 3, 2012  |   By jeremymd

Version: Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6

    Pros

    Rock-solid protection from... everything!
    Almost daily signature updates.
    Network-perfect.
It is NOT a resource hog, despite what others may say.

    Cons

Almost daily signature updates. (yup, it's a double-edged feature)
    Interface looks a bit dated

    Summary

The latest version of Kaspersky workstation ended with version 6 and I have had it and refused to upgrade to the newer versions for about a decade now, I think.

I have been a computer and virus enthusiast since the early times of DOS. I have also maintained multiple networked systems several times until today. Let me tell you that based on experience, Kaspersky does away with being fancy and cute and just gets the job done, no nonsense. I was led to kaspersky after an outbreak in one of our networks that had me check out almost EVERY antivirus solution at the time, each one failing to identify and fix the problem even if the problem was there in plain sight(folders kept being hidden and replaced by virus shortcuts renaming themselves and adopting folder icons). It was a very frustrating experience you can imagine, until I found a relatively known kaspersky back then.

Ever since I have never looked back. Ever since I have NEVER ever had a problem with viruses, or hackers or malicious websites or anything!

Sure, people may complain about kaspersky blocking software and such, but all it takes is a few keystrokes to add any software, website, or script to the Trusted Zone and there you go. That is, if you're CERTAIN it's to be trusted.

And it's always been an issue for kaspersky or for any antivirus solution to be resource hogs. What most don't know is beginning with the newest Windows operating systems(Win7), antivirus solutions in general have been given their own "paths" so they can operate smoothly from within the system without getting in the way of performance. And if ever there is an effect, it is negligible and you'll barely notice it.

Again, this is from someone who knows viruses and the potential problems it can cause, get kaspersky! Not some free software. You think anything else is good enough? Don't come crying to me when your system starts to act up, folders start disappearing, system slows down to a crawl, browsing slows down as well, websites like microsoft.com become blocked and inaccessible, task manager becomes unavailable, i'm telling you, you don't want that to happen.

    "Annoying pop-ups"

    June 27, 2010  |   By CA_Medicine_Woman

Version: Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6

    Pros

    Relatively easy deployment and installation.

    Cons

Repeatedly mis-identified safe applications as threats, while it found actual threats as safe.

    Summary

Tested on XP and Vista workstations.

Deployment and installation was smoother than most commercial packages. After that, any benefit went right out the window. All the workstations were plagued by repeated pop-up windows, insisting they purchase the software. The software also found as threats several well known utility programs, including weather alert software we know to be safe. Upon inserting a CD-ROM disc containing known threats, this software failed to detect any problem with the disc or its contents (test conducted on a non-production machine).

We ALWAYS assume trial versions will work exactly the same as purchased versions (save for time limitations).

Having said that, this software is NOT recommended, for all the reasons stated.

We individually uninstalled the software without issue from all machines.

"DO NOT BUY this - you will be sorry."

    May 7, 2010  |   By netmaker48

Version: Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6

    Pros

    Can't think of any....

    Cons

Resource hog, scans cripple systems, crap-shoot if it will uninstall even using tools from kaspersky. You'll spend LOTS of time supporting this if it's installed on very many PCs - enabling, disabling, & googling for fixes..... tech support lousy.

    Summary

Terrible product - the cost to users for loss of productivity and the inordinate amount of time required to support this product ensures that I would never recommend this software.....
