Version: Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro 5.0
"Recommended to my best friend"
Summary: I am a software developer for many years but not involved with Antivirus products. During the past two weeks, I evaluated Avast Pro, AVG 7 Pro, Bitdefender 8, PCcillin, Panda and F-Prot while being a long-time NOD32 user. All of them had a couple of features I didn't like or features missing that I was looking for. NOD32 and F-Prot became my two favorites because of the speed and low resource they use. Kaspersky was not under consideration because I believed the negative critics published by some users. Since none of the above met my requirements, I decided to give Kaspersky a chance. After one hour, I got the feeling that most of the negative criticism was obviously posted by people who have no knowledge about how a program or computer works or they were paid by Kaspersky's competition. Some facts: VB100 tests rank Kaspersky at the very top. Another non-profit organization recently released a detailed test result document (av-comparative) in PDF format where Kasperjy 5 is the definite winner with 99.7%. In regard to speed: NOD32 and F-Prot are the two fastest I knew but Kaspersky can keep up with them easily during real-time scanning. At first I thought it wasn't running because I did not realize the smallest delay in reaction time. Kaspersky keeps an internal database that stores scanned files references. Something that has been scanned will not be scanned again unless it has been changed. NOD32 and F-Prot scan a file 10 times if you open it 10 times. The on-demand scanner needs more time because it performs an in-depth scan as it should. This scan is supposed to find problems, if there are any, and not aiming towards speed records. I could go on and on with features not found anywhere else. Check it out. Make sure to uninstall or disable your current AV and restart your machine before installing KAV. The start-up time with KAV installed is maybe 30 seconds longer because it checks all programs loaded automatcially to find culprits that put themselves into the start-up section. KAV also fights off Trojans in a way and effectiveness no other AV does.
