"GOOD Product - Very Satisfied"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
Download and setup was easy. Works fine for me.
Cons
None so far.
Summary
Was very wary of downloading this when I read some of the reviews. However, having downloaded K9 I am more than happy. I had purchased SafeEyes before and while it was good, I had a few minor issues with it. When the license came to be renewed (at a cost), I surfed the Net and downloaded Norton Family for free. I have no doubt it is good, but it simply did not work with my version of Firefox. It kept telling me it only worked with the latest version of Firefox. However, I was using the latest version of Firefox. Thus, I dumped Norton and downloaded K9. It works a treat. It does what I ask it to do with absolutely no problems. I set it at the highest level for my children and it blocks all that I want it to block. I have had none of the problems others have experienced. I do, however, use a Mac which does not suffer from anti-virus programs so that may be the reason. For me, K9 is simply a brilliant product - and it is free. One suggestion: it would be good if the one license covered my iPad as the children use that as well.

"Didn't need this!"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
No pro's for me really. I already had web protection so this was sort of a wasted download.
Cons
Didn't interact well with my Spybot. Also, i do not need to block so much stuff. Not necessary. I have no kids and am the only user on my laptop.
Summary
This program will be greatly appropriate for a family with youngsters or someone who is easily offended by certain content. I was suprised to see "abortion" on the block selection, but shouldn't have been. This would be good for the super religious maybe?

"Excellent to block porn"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
blocks porn
Cons
none as of yet
Summary
The only thing I had to do when I first set it up was login to my account online and change the settings. It's set to block alot of site types, I customized it and only blocked nude/porn because that was my issue with the kids. Works Great.

"significant issues with the latest version"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
good product but needs allot of work
Cons
does not work far too often, causes computer to lock up, internet connectivity to be disabled and in my case cause the blue screen on my PC.
K9 support contacted me and let me know that they knew of issues whereby their product does not work well with some anti virus and firewall software.
This is a version that has been out for over 7 months and they did not produce a fix, not a good indication of a companies effort to keep a decent product!Summary
do not even try it now, K9 knows they need to fix the issues they have, until they do this is a product that will cause havoc on your PC.

"Big problems with Google Chrome"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
Excellent program if not using the Chrome browser.
Cons
Have had major problems with the last two versions of Google Chrome.
The K9 blocked sites warning comes up in separate tabs from the window you are viewing. Closing the tabs allows children direct access to the blocked/banned sites. Contacted Bluecoat and Chrome but did not receive any replies regarding this problem.Summary
Excellent program for IE/Firefox users.
Latest version of K9 as resolved the previous problems for me. I have been using the latest version for a few months and now find it to be an excellent program, meeting all of my needs and keeping my daughter safe whilst surfing.
Does not work with Google Chrome.

When contacting K9 support allow for the time difference in the USA before getting a reply. When making a report include details of your operating system, antivirus etc. Support staff have been very helpful to me. I think this is now the best web filter available. -
"Couldn't surf AT ALL after installing."
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
Well, I suppose it did eliminate any inappropriate sites
Cons
It eliminated every single other site as well. I couldn't get the browser to respond to anything. Even the K9 management site wouldn't open.
Summary
I installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried different browsers. I did everything I could think of. Why some people had a decent experience and I had a horrific one, I'm not sure. I'm fairly computer and software savvy (maybe not a tech genius, but no slob either).
I am not a rep or whatever for anything or anyone. My sister told me about Norton Family Online, it blows this bloated piece of software away. Also free. Way better and more powerful.
Good luck in your parental control software choices. -
"Freaking Nightmare"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
None. Worst program EVER.
Cons
Completely blocks your internet. COMPLETELY.
Summary
I didn't have an account for cnet before I downloaded this program, but since my experience, I just had to create an account to warn people about this absolutely horrendous program. I downloaded k9 to stop myself from watching porn. I set a random password, so that I wouldn't be tempted. Little did I know, my nightmare was about to begin.
I'm a freak because I wanted to stop myself from wasting my time watching inappropriate things? Bottom line is that this program caused way more problems than it should have.
I went on with my browsing, feeling good, knowing that I wouldn't be able to watch porn. The only problem was... I couldn't do a damn thing on the internet! Each time I tried to connect to a website, it always showed me the K9 protection error page. At first, I thought it might just have been my connection, after all, these things do happen. Nope. My entire family's internet connections were fine! I thought, "Hmm, that's odd." So I tried plugging in an ethernet cable to see if my internet would work again. Wrong again. I soon came to the conclusion that I would have to get rid of this program to access the internet again!
The only problem, was that this program is damn near impossible to uninstall! And get this, if you did what I did, and set a random password, you will NEVER be able to uninstall this program. A password is required to uninstall this program, and if you click "Forgot password", NOTHING HAPPENS, because you need to have an internet connection to have a password sent to your e-mail! This wouldn't be a problem, if this program didn't block your internet completely!
The only way I got rid of this program was to do a bunch of extremely tedious things that didn't uninstall the program, but disabled it completely. After doing this, what do you know? My internet was working perfectly again!
Sorry for the long rant, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM. Save yourself the trouble and hours of time removing this. I've learned my lesson. I would give this program negative a million stars if I could.

"Very good product, works smoothly, accurate and free"
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
Blocks alot of things which can be customised by adminstrator. Many low end websites that aren't popular are blocked. Hardly any websites go past unnoticed. Works with any browser that tries to connect to the internet. Fast, the internet speed isn't compromised.Very hard to bypass almost impossible for the average to expert user.
Cons
Blocking streaming content blocks popular websites like youtube which can't be a good thing in this day and age. However allowing youtube and download sites means some small percentage of adult type videos can be viewed on youtube and pornography can be downloaded.
Did cause severe slow internet issues with Avast AntiVirus which I spent a long time solving, thanks to Phillabb. See his review to solve the compatibility issue with Avast antivirus.
Needed to add avast to exclusions list myself on my firewall.Summary
Very good, reliable and accurate product for the home. Has a lot of helpful features and not any useless comsumer junk. Easy to download and install, cannot be bypassed. Works with all interfaces/browsers that attempts to connect to the internet. Does not slow down the internet and blocking results are fast.

"Free and better than most of paid softwares."
Version: K9 Web Protection 4.3.188
Pros
It's simple and easy;
It has few, but essential features;Cons
- The last K9 version doesn't work properly on my computer: lots of internet site can't be accessed: "K9 is not responding" and Chrome brownser slows down until I desinstall K9.
- K9 should have more features. Ex: the possibility of exceptions overide all restrictions (so, a kid could watch a site like Khan Academy anytime).
- K9 should allow diferent settings for different computer accounts.Summary
Until the recent bugs the new version, K9 was the best program (including purchased with paid) that I had found. Now I am looking for others.
