With the dominance of Facebook in the social-networking space, other players are trying to get in on the act, which is not a bad thing. It's good to have options, and competition keeps the major players in check. JustConnected tries to compete against Facebook, but its glitchy performance and lack of participants keep it from truly making a mark.
To use JustConnected, you'll need to sign up for an account, which you can do from the app itself. As with most social-networking services, it does require a bit of information, including your first and last name, birth date, gender, e-mail address, and a password. Once you enter your account information, it asks you to check a box if you agree with the terms and conditions, but there were no terms and conditions to read. To be quite honest, that made us a little wary of the app.
A confirmation link is sent to your e-mail address, which takes you to your online profile. There, you can add more information about yourself, such as where you went to college, and a profile picture, to round out your profile. The app is broken down into sections for Photos, Headlines, Private Messages, Coupons and Gifts, Friends, Birthdays, and Settings. JustConnected also offers a way to connect with other JustConnected friends via Facebook, Gmail, Yahoo, and MSN accounts, but we couldn't find any friends who were using the app, so we couldn't really test its functions in that way. But we can at least say that the overall design of each feature was very amateurish. And when we tried to type out a message or add a photo from our library, the app crashed and we had to sign in again, which was a pain.
If you're looking for a viable alternative to Facebook or Google+, sadly JustConnected isn't it.
