This program is fabulous. It is quick and stable and doesn't use very much CPU resource. It's also very intuitive and the interface is very clean and Mac-like. The help file is OK, but if you need more documentation or have any questions, all you have to do is visit the Jubler forum at http://jubler.org/smf/ It uses MPlayer to play your video as your text is added as a subtitle, real time. If you find that your subtitles are not in sync, all you have to do is select the in time and the end time audio, match those up with the text that is displayed, then click a button and like magic your subtitle is now synched. You can also save your subs in many formats such as srt, sub, and ass. Creating your own custom subs are easy as well. If you need to recode your subtitle to match your film's frame rate, it can be done in less than a minute. My only criticism with this program is that the spell checker needs to be improved; if you need to you can always open it with Text Wrangler and use that spellchecker which is much better.

Someone complained about MPlayer. The new version of MPlayer is very buggy. All you have to do is use an earlier version of MPlayer and how to find it and install it are on the Jubler forum. The older version works flawlessly with Jubler.

This is one of my favorite programs and the reason why is because of how smoothly it works, and also I know that it is saving me hours of work because it is working so efficiently. If you do anything with subtitles this program is indispensable.

    "Missed the Boat"

    June 22, 2009  |   By NakedPreznit

    Version: Jubler 4.1.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This thing could have been so good but, for whatever reason, is actually a piece of junk. From the major hassle of having to add elements of MPlayer (which don't work properly, and end up frozen on your desktop, time and again), to the almost worthless documentation, this thing has wasted days of my life.

What do you expect? It's free! [I hear you say.] Frankly, my dear, this kind of 'free' is something I can live without.

Okay, rave on here: the buttons on the interface are so small I had to change the resolution on my monitor to see them. Clunky code brings up monitor windows, over and over, until they are tiled on top of one another like dead meat, beachball whirring away. Even force quit won't remove this garbage -- thank you, MPlayer: another piece of dead junk that should have been buried years ago and hasn't been updated in so long one can only wonder whether the guys there are rotting in their chairs. Somebody ought to check out that building.

I have to admit, the concept of this app, apart from the horrible interface design and major malfunctions which make it practically unusable: very nice. I like the wave-form for the sound which, notionally, one is supposed to be able to select a portion of and create a subtitle for that, etc., etc., all very promising.

Finally, the programmers ought to get a native English speaker to write out some proper instructions, because the Help file appears to be the work of someone who does not have a complete grasp of English, or who is just translating or transcribing a description of something which they have never actually used.

Avoid this, at all costs, until they get it right. There's a point at which 'freeware' is nothing more than a virus, and this application is not far short of that.

i've been looking for this for a long time. lets you clean up, repair, and transpose time, or create subtitles from scratch. supports many formats and has a very good integration with MPlayer. great tool for both fast tweaks or big projects. recommended!
