Editors' Review
Right down to the opening music, sound effects, and applause, Jeopardy Deluxe seeks to replicate the experience of the popular, long-lived TV game show on which it's based. This game adds to the immersion by letting you build and name your own avatar, with different options for hair, complexion, clothing, etc., (although the customization is pretty limited, compared with more-complex games), and your avatar reacts appropriately, whether clapping or pumping his or her fists.
The format and flow of the game, as well as the categories and questions, follow the TV show very closely--right down to the Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy progression--with one major exception: all questions (er, "answers," in Jeopardy-ian argot) are multiple choice, making the game arguably easier than actual Jeopardy. That also influences how you play against computer opponents (set to easy, medium, or hard, with likewise customizable appearance), as speedy responses are rewarded disproportionately. You can also play alone, but the game is at its best when playing with other human players on the same computer, with each person assigned his own response key. Given that Jeopardy has already been done repeatedly for the Mac, it's disappointing to see occasional video glitches and so few innovations (why no online play option, for example?). Still Jeopardy fans will have fun with this game.
