"Java needs to provide a more secure product."

    August 28, 2011  |   By kaffedrnkr

Version: Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 7

    Pros

Provides a stable platform only briefly.

    Cons

Can only be used briefly prior to being compromised.
Java and other developers need to harden their products prior to release to avoid the constant barrage of updates, patches and hotfixes that seem to be the norm.

    .

    Summary

Software developers need to test and evaluate product more strictly prior to release. It is obvious that there is more money to be made in the fix arena that in testing and user functionality. Or are the "hackers" that prevalent that no software company can construct a program that can be used without a patch every week or so?

"JRE is ok, but download from other that CNET!!"

    August 27, 2011  |   By davemac2006

Version: Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 7

    Pros

    JRE works fine.

    Cons

Downloading from CNET requires you to add "Dealply". When did CNET start playing these bull crap games...?

    Summary

I keep getting a notice from techtracker (CNET) saying it needs updated. If I click the link, then CNET tries to add "dealply" to my computer. I DON'T WANT IT!! I go to Sun/Oracle's site and it says I have the most up to date version already. CNET is giving itself a black eye.
