"Uninstalled already due to the spam messages"

    April 11, 2009  |   By indyeastsider

    Version: JBuddy Messenger 3.0.090324

    Pros

Easy connection and functionality much like Trillian. Installation was simple. I evaluated this on a Mac.

    Cons

After a couple of minutes a rotating set of messages replaces the JBuddy icon at top, promoting the enterprise version. This version is best left to enterprise IT staff evaluating for deployment rather than casual home users.

    Summary

Check it out if you need a control-minded IM product in an enterprise environment, but pass if you want a casual IM environment for home use.

    "A toy"

    February 22, 2008  |   By VictoTronics

    Version: JBuddy Messenger 2.4.0822

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
    So many annoyances.....

My buddy list shows the groups "Contacts", "Other contacts" and "Work", and there is no way to tell it how to ignore those groups and just show me everyone. There also seems to be no way to move a buddy from one group to another.

When the program starts up it shows a small splash screen, then displays a dialog behind it. I just click on one of the buttons that sticks out from behind the splash screen, but I have no idea what I have just agreed to.

This is maybe an alpha version of a program that could conceivably be useful in a couple of years.

    "Problems with ICQ after install"

    June 15, 2004  |   By conte0815

    Version: JBuddy Messenger 0.9.0505

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
installation and configuration worked fine with my g4 350 panther 10.3.4. but when ever someone tried to send me a message it said "Could not send message" at their clients. so i decided to uninstall it and use the original icq client again.
Just that somehow jbuddy mixed up all my nicknames - which were already stored on the icq server.
Had to go through my contactlist and rename a third of it...
Otherwise a nice app but not ready for use for me at the moment. i´ll try it with a new version again

    "Off to a good start"

    March 31, 2004  |   By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

    Version: JBuddy Messenger 0.9.0331

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been bouncing around with multi-client messenger applications Fire, Proteus, Adium and now JBuddy all three apps are off to a good start but thats about it some are farther than others. I'd suggest losing the clickable company banner at on the buddy list if I need to goto your homepage I'll find out from the about what the URL is. Don't even think about putting ads there windows users may tolerate them but Mac users won't Ads = Trash Can. The interface is typical but the icons leave something to be desired and the metal skin if you can call it that isn't very metallic refer to Apple iLife apps or Safari. I have yet to test file sending or multi user chatting right now I'm just happy it connected to my other accounts. But it didn't preserve my blocked list on MSN.

    "Great Start..."

    January 8, 2004  |   By SaintStryfe

    Version: JBuddy Messenger 0.7.1232

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
... but no where near "everyday" usable. It's got a while to go - settable Buddy Icons, saving passwords, Alias setting (IE so my buddy isn't "nice_girl_39320" but "Robin"), use your standard windows (so my OS theme is applied), iChat compatablity (for Voice/Video) are all possible areas. Some more important then others. But, for the program i as now, I see a very encouraging start.

    "Several Things"

    September 17, 2003  |   By RAngol

    Version: JBuddy Messenger 1.0.0915

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
First of all I don't like filling out forms. And secondly you provide a help commentary in your message about installation, the upgrade to Java 1.4.1, etc. etc., but that doesn't change the fact that my firewall thinks you want access to my ~/Library/Documents anytime you want, either on an individual basis for each access or by writing a rule modifying my firewall (custom; not Apple default). I could of course allow temporary access and *assume* that there won't be any hanky panky unless I choose to save a document. But it doesn't look that way. As elsewhere commented this looks a lot like good old fashioned Windows spyware and that isn't appreciatd on the Mac, Linux, Solaris, or any other *nix platforms. This might be especially worrisome to me if I had problems getting the prefs to "stick" and had to continually be allowing you access, etc. etc. to get this thing to install correctly and only temporary access. But it won't. And I'm tired of giving it access for some reason I then have to try to verify and determine exactly what is going on (not always even possible). And I'm not going to be foolish enough to use it or your other Windoze ports on a *nix based LAN or individual computer. I'll repeat an earlier BEWARE THIS WINDOWS SPYWARE comment made by someone else. There are other good choices available open source or with the Mac GUI.

This app is ranges from 0 - 11% when in the foreground.
