1. It takes a short time after downloading to get right down to the basics of photo-editing/manipulating.
2. The huge plethora (Hey! There's the "Word of the Day"! ;>) of functions and abililties that this program contains continues to amaze and delight me.
3. Even if you just want to use it for simple photo-editing tasks, believe me, you'll be sorely tempted to dive a little deeper into the available possibilities of the program to see what you could really create.
4. Comprehensive "Help" is available within the program itself to get you going.Cons
For novices (such as myself), this may at first seem a somewhat daunting application to get your head wrapped around simply because of the large number of capabilities the program contains. Not to worry... take some time and do a little "Help" reading first and you'll be fine.
Summary
I regular use 3 different photo-editors: Irfanview, FastStone Image Viewer and Photoscape. My number 1 "goto" program though is Irfanview. I've been using all 3 close to 2 years now, but it's Irfanview I predominantly use. And I've nowhere near completed discovering all its abililties! Get it and try it and you'll understand why I like this one the best. Happy Editing!

All in all, as free programs go, it's a great piece of software. It's the kind of software that, if you were using it on a 30 day trial, you would probably buy it!

"Still don't know where to find individual plug-ins"

Gives me lots of choices in editing my photos. It seems to turn an image on its own, without my telling it to, although my original source still has the image turned left or right and not vertically.
Cons
Still can't figure out how to make a panoramic image. Don't know how to get 2 images to join at a common location. When I'm trying to arrow through my images, in order, the program scrambles the order of the images it displays. No where to find location for individual plug-ins.
Summary
It's open-source freeware, making finding plug-ins an impossible challenge, but the editing choices are really nice.
