Version: Internet Explorer 8
"Regret ever installing it."
Pros: nothing at all.
Cons: to put it shortly, everything.
Summary: When I bought my laptop in Feb 2009, it had IE7 on it and it ran like a racehorse, then I received an ad from Microsoft, asking me if I wanted to "improve" IE. Still excited over my laptop purchase, I agreed. I thought that my "racehorse" would run even faster, but I was in for a big surprise. My laptop slowed considerably, all kind of "page errors" showed ( an exclaimation symbol in the lower left corner of screen) and the performance that was promised wasn't there. I know it wasn't my laptop, it ran perfectly prior to the IE8 install. The worst thing about it, I couldn't even uninstall it. If only I knew that I could simply through the reinstall disc for XP Pro that came with my laptop and start fresh at that time, I would have. I suffered through all this until late spring of 2009 when the RC of Firefox 3.5 was available. Having nothing to lose, I downloaded & installed it. My prized "racehorse" returned to me and I never looked back. I have an IE tab installed in case I need it. Recently, I purchased a brand new Dell PC that had IE8 preinstalled. Without even trying it out further, I put the reinstall disc in, did full updates and mandatory validation and left IE6 as the Windows browser. I unchecked the IE7 & IE8 options and checked not to show these updates again, all on a brand new PC. Now Firefox has 3.5.5 and it's better than ever. I'm not trying to change the subject here, but would someone please tell me how that a billionaire corporation like Microsoft let an upstart company that is funded largely by donations and for the most part, staffed by volunteers allow themselves to be beaten in the browser department? I could see it if it was an Apple product, but Mozilla? I have all the respect in the world for Mozilla for their rapid advancement. If they came out with an OS, I'd be one of the first to try that, too.
