    Version: Internet Explorer 7

    "Hardly worth the trouble."

by Cheapster on October 18, 2006

Pros: First IE update in years. Finally has a tabbed UI, and isn't as full of security holes.

Cons: Too little too late. There's nothing here to lure away users who have already switched to Firefox or Opera.

The interface is awkward and poorly laid out. Uses much more memory than its predecessor, doesn't always work properly with some sites or utilities.

If you're happy with Firefox, or even IE6, this new version of IE isn't going to change your life. Give MS a couple of more months to issue all the inevitable platches and updates before downloading this one...

As the release of IE 8 is already known to be mid-2008, I look forward to the new version. Hopefully, Microsoft will be able to whip up a browser that can be better than Internet Explorer 7 and, perhaps, the more recommended browsers as of today.

For Kaitlyn25, a belated reply on how to remove IE7 (taken from Microsoft's support site):

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP

    1. Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."

    2. Click "Add or Remove Programs."

    3. Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.

    4. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove." (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview â?? March 20 or later, it is not necessary to check "Show Updates.")

The "Show Updates" requirement seems to trip some people up. Hope this works for you, if you haven't already fixed it by now.

I've used IE6 since it first came out and then a few weeks ago, upgraded to the IE7 version.

The tabbed pages are nice, but there seem to be too many pages slowing down while tracking phishing sites and the like.

IE7 seems to be a memory hog. I have already uninstalled this IE7 and reverted to my IE6 version. Every time I went to a different window to open some other site, IE7 froze .

For those of you who run Firefox or other browsers, continue using those if you prefer. Remember that Firefox is a small download and installs in just a couple of minutes.

You seem to know what you're talking about as far as all this computer stuff... I just downloaded IE7 & I hate it & I was wondering if you could tell me how to get back to using my IE6?
