"Interarchy Mac OSX"

December 21, 2004  |  By pjonesCET

 |  Version: Interarchy 7.2.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using Interarchy back when it was named Anarchie on OS9.
The program keeps getting better and better. Support through a newsgroup is exceptional. What makes it that way, is that the author actually answers suport questions, if other users don't or can't.

Sometimes if you have a strange problem, he will go beyond the call of duty; helping figure out the problem. Even if the ultimate answer turns out not to be an Interarchy problem.

"Great application, but where are the updates; where..."

April 09, 2008  |  By stylus808

 |  Version: Interarchy 9.0

Summary

...is the developer/support?
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been a long-time user of Interarchy since about version 3... The developer of this software up until version 8 (Peter N Lewis) was fantastic. Whenever I found bugs I would e-mail the developer and they would invariably try to fix them and often respond straight away to find out more details of the problem. The updates would be regular and thorough - usually eliminating problems quickly. For this, I remained loyal, knowing that the developer stood behind their product.

However, with version 9, the application changed hands to a new developer (Nolobe). Whilst this has brought improvements to the product, I discovered several bugs (some of them serious crashing bugs) and e-mailed the developer/support about them. 3 months later, I haven't heard a single word from them, and there have been absolutely no updates to this application. This situation seriously brings into question the developer's commitment to the product, and to the actual feasibility of using it going forward.

I'd say if you're interested in purchasing this, don't buy it until the developer shows some signs of supporting it.

"Brilliant upgrade - and no problems here"

January 12, 2008  |  By zimbop

 |  Version: Interarchy 9.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Having used Interarchy 9.0 pretty extensively for the last 24 hours I can report that it's reliable on my G5 PPC. So what do I want from an upgrade to interarchy? More speed? Better Security? Streamlined UI? I was amazed as it has all of those. I can count the number of times I've been as pleased by an upgrade as much as this on the fingers of one hand (the recent version of Logic accounts for three of those fingers, it was so good).

SSH works brilliantly, unbelievably fast listings even with a couple of hundred items in a folder. The draggable and organisable tabs, along with the sidebar, make perfect sense, it's just like using the finder. Another handy new feature is the directory/path info which is like a breadcrumb trail at the bottom of the window.

I'm a great fan of PathFinder, and I think the Nolobe crew must be too, because it's starting to feel like a streamlined version of that, with all of it's advantages but without the complexity. My congratulations to the team on a solid update. I would have liked a bit more of a discount as a current user, but then I do use Interarchy all the damn time so I'll live with it seeing as they've delivered what feels like a proper major update (for an FTP app that is ? don't expect it to control itunes or anything funky).

One thing I'd like to see, which should be easy since we can now connect with SSH, is a drop down terminal draw at the bottom which can resize nicely like the one in PathFinder. I would then be able to do fast tar, gzip and recursive permissions or deletes ? and yes I know there's an open in terminal command but I want it built in dammit :) Anyway, a great update, seems like the problems reported may depend on whether that stuff is important to you, doesn't affect me at all, and I'm sure they'll be fixed soon enough ? since Nolobe took over (a developer take over if I remember??) things have been improving dramatically.

"Not ready for prime time"

January 11, 2008  |  By tracy valleau--2008

 |  Version: Interarchy 9.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Unfortunately, this version is not ready for prime time. It crashes constantly. (Their forum is full of complaints.) There is no help; you cannot add a folder to the bookmark bar w/o crashing; adding a local file bookmark crashes it; the net tools are gone.. the list goes on.

This is very weird: Interarchy has always been a strong, reliable client... this release (9.0) isn't even ready for beta status, IMHO.

"Better than ever"

January 11, 2008  |  By tersonodesign

 |  Version: Interarchy 9.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Interarchy has long been one of the most powerful FTP clients available regardless of platform, but Nolobe have really excelled themselves with this release - in particular a vastly improved GUI and file handling over ssh (rather than sftp), which is going to be very handy for a lot of power users.

Oh, and to the reviewer below who suggested 'boycotting' such a fine product, all I can say is get a grip - your comments are nonsensical. Yes, there are plenty of free FTP clients out there (Cyberduck probably being the best of 'em), and they're going to be fine for casual use. If that's all you need, then go for it. None, however, offer the feature set and sheer power of Interarchy which, for power users, has long been one of the best FTP clients on any platform and well worth the license fee.

"Still the best"

May 07, 2007  |  By tersonodesign

 |  Version: Interarchy 8.5.2f1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
For sheer power, nothing even comes close. Not only does Interarchy manage my websites and basic file transfers, but it mirrors current projects between my various computers, mirrors bookmarks, calendars and addressbooks between machines and does all this unattended at scheduled times.

One of the best 'net apps on the platform IMO

"One of the best applications available"

 |  Version: Interarchy 8.5.2b2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Interarchy is awesome. It saves me countless hours. I can understand how it could overwhelm novices but it is not intended for novices. If you are a web developer and need to upload lots of large complicated websites I strongly recommend you check out Interarchy. It's mirroring engine, user interface, and bookmarking system is a real time saver.

"Invaluable"

September 06, 2006  |  By peter230

 |  Version: Interarchy 8.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

Interarchy is a professional tool for professional people - designers, web developers, creative professionals, and power users. It is best of class software.

Interarchy is easily worth $59.95. In fact it is worth far more. Interarchy saves us countless hours of work. How is not worth the measly sum of $59.95?

I could be cheap and save on the initial cost by buying Fetch or Transmit. But it would quickly catch up with us through lost time. Fetch and Transmit just don't cut it when you are doing high end work. They are for novices. We would have to put on extra people to cope with the extra work created by using Transmit or Fetch.

I'd still buy Interarchy if it cost $159.95. It is that good. Interarchy is invaluable.

"Extremely useful, well-integrated app"

August 07, 2006  |  By Holford

 |  Version: Interarchy 8.1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using Interarchy and its predecessor, Anarchie, for the ten years that I've worked on the web. It has become an indispensable tool for automating and easing all kinds of file transfers.

Interarchy is well-designed, easy on the eyes, straightforward to use, and stable. Highly recommended.
