    "Good Software"

    May 29, 2007  |   By arunthomasm

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been using VirusBarrier X4 (Universal Binary) for the last 2 months and I find it is very useful. It could show me some Windows Viruses such as Win32.Agent.AEV stayed in our Windows 2003 Server CommonShare and thereby I could remove them.

    Thanks to Intego!

    Regards and Cheers,
    Arun

"Quick, Fast, Easy to Use, and Unobtrusive!"

    February 16, 2007  |   By arkangel_3

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Pros

I recently purchased an iMac (24" version Intel Duo Core), and although I knew there were few viruses out there for Mac, I still felt I needed an anti-virus program. I had used MacAfee and Symantec in the past, but I heard that their versions for Mac were cumbersome and substandard and I heard nothing about good things about Virus Barrier.

I jumped in head first and not only bought the virus barrier, but the firewall and anti-spam as well (They come bundled if you visit Intego's website). All three products work in perfect harmony together. As for the virus barrier, it runs quietly in the background taking up absolutely no resources, same with the other two products I mentioned.

The best part of the program is that it remembers the files you have on the PC, and andy changes/upgrades/additions/deletions. This way, a virus scan takes about 10 minutes because it already knows your system, unlike Symantec and Macafee which have to "relearn" everything each time you scan.

So far, it has only discovered two corrupt files, and "erradicated" them for me (that's the term used by the lovely female computer voice in the program).

If you want a program that's quick and efficient as well as effective, this is the one to get. You can do a straight download from the site, or for an additional $9.99, you can have the download and a CD-ROM sent to you as well.

    Highly recommended!

    Cons

    Absolutely none.

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Pros

terrific!!!! wow!! absolutely great product. i have used norton up till now and i used to swear by it. but the other day I was lucky enough to buy my first mac so I read some reviews. symantec itself suggested not to use their av and all reviewers were pointing at this software i thought i d give it a shot. so glad i did. such a beautiful interface with absolute ease of use. drag & scan, never imagined life would be that easy!! and speed, this software is fast very very fast w/o sacrificing quality. i connected my usb drive which i have scanned about zillion times with my norton but intego found 3 viruses on it. get this software!! absolutely great!

    Cons

your friends will be jelaous thats all :)

    "Intego VirusBarrier X4 - 10.4.3 (entire suite)"

    October 8, 2006  |   By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been a Intego Customer for three years.

I have intentionally feed my laptop pc virus. The product does not detect them. However, Norton Antivirus did and cleaned them.

Problems began with there new product release. I thought, perhaps it was my problem and not theres. I erased my hard drive and reinstalled osx. Everything worked fine. As soon as I installed Intego. Performance came to a crawl and then CRASH! FREEZE.

Uninstalling there product returned my computer performance like "fresh out of the box". Also, my computer no longer freezes and crashes!

A friend of mine works for Apple in Sales. Apple Computer uses Norton Anti Virus on there computers and network. What does that tell you?

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Since I take my responsibilty to not pass along the myriad Windows viruses being released every day I purchased this product. It has proven to be simple to use and speedy. But the lack of frequent updates is totally unacceptable. Until Sophos releases something for the home user I'll stick with Clam.

    "DID hurt performance. Badly."

    June 14, 2006  |   By kabeyun

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've read the above customer review as well as one semi-professional review which passingly remark how VirusBarrier "doesn't hurt performance" or "won't slow down your system." I most certainly did not find this to be true.

After installing VBX (MacBook Pro dual 2.16 GHz, 1 GB RAM), I noticed constant hard drive activity and system performance slowed to a crawl. In one case it took this brand new, high-performance computer 9 or 10 seconds to simply open a menu after clicking in the menu bar. All tasks were affected and it was extremely frustrating.

    What it's not:
    1. My new MPB spotlight indexing. That's long done.
    2. CPU usage, I don't think. Activity monitor found from 3 to 6 instances of "VisueBarrierScan" active at any one time, each using up to 20% CPU activity, but total CPU activity never exceeded 57% of capacity.
    3. The Background Scanning option. Turned it off, and my MBP still labored.
    4. The Intego widgets. Closed them too, and nothing changed.

    What I did:
    1. Uninstaled VBX. It was like I dropped 50 pounds. My computer is once again light and zippy.

    What I concede:
    1. I'm not about to say that VBX is inherently a product that dramatically slows performance across the board. However, I will say the following. The relationship between the VBX installation and serious performance degradation (and between its uninstallation and immediate performance restoration) was obvious. Also, I see nothing unique about my system or its baseline activity to make mine a special case. In fact, 1 GB RAM exceeds manufacturer's spec.

In sum, VBX may be a thorough and easy-to-use virus proctection utility but the performance degradation, apparently dominating HD access, is unacceptable. Particularly is we're asked to shell out $30 a year for vdefs under an OS that's inherently resistant to infection in the first place.

    "Silent = Working?"

    May 10, 2006  |   By Wm. Cerniuk

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Installed this product without a fuss. While the product is nice looking the marketing folks are annoying me with this mandatory intego menu (thanks but I would just rather launch the app).

It has been working in the background for quite some time and I have forgotten it is there. That impresses me.

For a long time I swore by Virex and at version 7.5 I swore at it for the CPU hogging it was causing and the system hangs. So far, I see no issue with VirusBarrier and a smoother operations as well... so smooth that I wonder if it is doing anything? Must hunt up a PC virus and see if it detects it...

Don't care for the mandatory menu and the mandatory DashBoard widgets. Other than that, so far so good.

"Free trial version is no help - can scan but not repair"

    May 8, 2006  |   By dblair48

    Version: Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.3

    Pros

Interface looks nice - very Mac like.

    Cons

Wanted to see how good it worked before purchasing, b/c it is very expensive, but the trial version does not repair it only scans in trial version. You lost a future customer.
