Intego VirusBarrier 2013 for Mac User Reviews

"As a Former X6 user, This VB2013 version is ABYSMAL."
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.3
Pros
Compared to X6... NONE! Really messed up the system after the download!
Cons
VB 2013 made for the computer user that needs a program which needs minimal configuration.
VB2013 has no personal INFORMATION PROTECTION that was part version X6.
VB 2013 has no outright product strength. During the upgrade download, it really messed up the system after following the download instructions on their website.
Customer service sucks. ie: Filled out a complaint form and someone will contact you! NEVER HAPPENED! Email rec'd listed a phone # to call, no one ever answered... (please leave your name and phone # and some will return your call!) again no return calls!.Summary
Look to a Company that has online assistance! A reputable customer service center.
Intego has neither! -
"It is fine in 10.6.8. What's with the 1-star reviews?"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.2
Pros
It is fast.
On the home disk, at least, it has a quick scan option, which was fast.
It works - so far, though it hasn't found any infected files - yet.
I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2011-era iMac.Cons
None yet. Bought it awhile ago but just started using it today.
If I encounter problems later, I'll post a flaming review...Summary
I don't work for Intego. Couldn't care less. But this 'it kills 10.6.8' posts - well, maybe it did for them, but it has been fine for me. It just works.
I miss the overcomplicated 'submarine-like' interface. The new one is boring. But it works and is minimalist (in the apple way). Wish they had an option to bring back a less boring window.
But kudos to the developers in the initial splash/startup screen after you install. You get a window that points out all of the key features; you click once, and it is gone forever. Very nicely done. -
"Excellent Antivirus for Macbook Air"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.2
Pros
Easy to install. Light footprint on my new Macbook Air. Clean user interface. Definitely a set up and forget about it type of antivirus. Protects me from Mac malware, Windows malware, Linux malware, malicious scripts, hacking tools, keyloggers. Includes option for behavioral analysis that "dynamically inspects running applications and warns you when inappropriate behavior is detected." Also scans archives, emails, iPhone, iPod and iPad for malware.
Cons
If you like tinkering with different tools and av options, after configuring preferences and turning on real-time scanning there isn't much else to play around with.
Summary
I recently switched from using Windows to a Mac. My Windows XP computer finally died on me but I've always enjoyed using my iPhone and iPad so I opted to go for the MacBook Air (so I can sync everything together). Problem is it only seemed like a natural shift from Windows to Mac since I have the iphone but I'm still sort of a newbie to OSX. On my old Windows desktop I used to run Norton or Spyware Doctor (for anti-spyware). But after looking into the differences between Windows and Mac internet threats I found that Windows software might not be the best option for use on my Mac. (From what I understand Macs can't get Windows malware. but I could be wrong?) Anyways after researching more I found Intego and installed the trial for their Mac Internet Security with VirusBarrier 2013, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 and what I needed. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed! It runs very light in the background, and I can even work on other stuff while it's scanning. I like the user interface especially, basically from set up to scan it is way easy to use. So after almost two months using it I'm definitely open to recommending virus barrier 2013 to others -- it is an excellent product!

Cons
None so far.
Summary
I have not ran into any issues that others are reporting. I am not a technical person and just recently moved to mac from PC.

"2013 VAST improvement over X6"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.2
Pros
Installed the upgrade last week. FINALLY a security product that doesn't require I am an IT expert. Clean interface, NetBarrier 2013 gives me simple options. Definitely not seeing the probs others are seeing. Seems to run faster on scan.
Cons
Long overdue, X6 was getting old.
Summary
No problems with it. I am running 10.6.8, not seeing any issues. Unless you like the technoid stuff in X6, definitely worth upgrading.

"DO NOT INSTALL ON 10.6.8!!"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.2
Pros
None. totally screwed up entire computer!
Cons
I bought new version last week, but didn't update, then it updated automatically and completely shut me off to my network and so emails.
Summary
Avoid this if you have 10.6.8 I'm trying to restore my computer after losing a day worth of work, never mind i don't have time to trouble shoot, but when I went to intego software, all these IPs I use to connect to the network were checked as "intruders" and shut off. I unchecked and I could connect to the network again (only took 5 hour after getting IT involved and missing a few deadlines. BUT I still cannot get my email to work!!! THANKS INTEGO!!!!!!

"what a fricking JOKE. do not istall on 10.6.8!!!"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.1
Pros
none and now they owe me for a complete day wasted adn me having to work into the night! Totally screwed me!
Cons
I get an update message and all he!! breaks loose. I lose my network cnnection, then I lose email. Apparently this STUPID program blocks EVERYTHING! and is a piece of ****! DO NOT BUY IT ! I'm so P.O.'d at this point because I lost a full day of work that had to get out. This totally screwed me and I didn't do anything, it updated automatically and totally screwed me over. Nice a virus program can take over your machine and screw you when it's supposed to prevent others from doing what it did after an "update" nice friggin update that ends up being worse than a virus.
Summary
Avoid this **** of trash software and stay with what you have until they figure it out. What a scam and we should start a class action lawsuit about the wasted hours people will be spending trying to ffigure out what the heck happened when they lose connections!

"2013 not for OSX snow leopard 10.6.8"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.2
Pros
runs real slow and panics my macbook pro,... nice to know!
Cons
Uninstalling to get back to virus barrier 6 had to be performed manually and automatically.
Summary
Stick with VB 6 until later in the year as customer support told me that the better version will be out then. They were really supportive in identifying why INTF this premium 2013 upgrade did not work with OSX and helped me with the uninstall.

"Upgrade from X6 seriously messed up my Mac."
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7.2
Pros
None that I am aware of.
Cons
Scans froze multiple times--would not reach 100% completion
Computer froze multiple times--force quite was not available so I had press off button
Messed up my Mac mail--outgoing smtp servers were deleted so I had to reinstall my email accounts
Messed up my Word templates--an extra template I had not written appeared from nowhereSummary
I have uninstalled the 2013 version and am still finding problems, e.g mail is slow. Please, do not go with this upgrade. I assumed that since the X6 version was good, I was safe to upgrade. I have learned my lesson not to be so unthinking.

"Dissappointing"
Version: Intego VirusBarrier 2013 10.7
Pros
System scans seem to be OK
Cons
Background "Real Time" Scans are a serious problem. Running Mountain Lion on brand new MacPro with all updates complete; latest version of VB. Scans show no threats or viruses. But background scan activity is constantly blocking access to critical system files which in turn hang or freeze system.
Looking through the Intego support pages and knowledge base, it's company driven without user comments and there's no content addressing this.
Unacceptable.Summary
Until this gets resolved with updates, look for an alternative.
