"Crashes and Too Expensive!"

May 02, 2014  |  By hansolo09

 |  Version: Intego Mac Internet Security X8 10.8

Pros

Easy Interface

Cons

Resource Hog!
Crashes
Way too expensive Just get AVG it is free
slows down computer

Summary

I bought their bundle and most the products are crap. It makes you install a completely different software just to receive updates. When it is scanning it takes up all my resources and crashes all the time. For the money I would not buy this. I didn't know about AVG until after I purchased it and it is free. So far no issue with AVG. The firewall is horrible, and Family Protector is 100% useless.

"Excellent software for Macbook Air"

February 20, 2013  |  By brianr887

 |  Version: Intego Mac Internet Security 2013 10.7.1

Pros

VirusBarrier: Easy to install. Light footprint on my new Macbook Air. Clean user interface. Definitely a set up and forget about it type of antivirus. Protects me from Mac malware, Windows malware, Linux malware, malicious scripts, hacking tools, keyloggers. Includes option for behavioral analysis that "dynamically inspects running applications and warns you when inappropriate behavior is detected." Also scans archives, emails, iPhone, iPod and iPad for malware.

Net Barrier: Really liking the automatic profile changes from home network to work. Set up and forget about it firewall and anti-spyware protection. I also noticed it doesn't conflict with OS X's built in firewall; I have both turned on. Netbarrier definitely gives me more control over incoming and outgoing traffic (both internet and local connections).

Cons

VirusBarrier: If you like tinkering with different tools and av options, after configuring preferences and turning on real-time scanning there isn't much else to play around with.

Net Barrier: How come netbarrier and virusbarrier come as two separate apps?

Summary

I recently switched from using Windows to a Mac. My Windows XP computer finally died on me but I've always enjoyed using my iPhone and iPad so I opted to go for the MacBook Air (so I can sync everything together). Problem is it only seemed like a natural shift from Windows to Mac since I have the iphone but I'm still sort of a newbie to OSX. On my old Windows desktop I used to run Norton or Spyware Doctor (for anti-spyware). But after looking into the differences between Windows and Mac internet threats I found that Windows software might not be the best option for use on my Mac. (From what I understand Macs can't get Windows malware. but I could be wrong?) Anyways after researching more I found Intego and installed the trial for their Mac Internet Security 2013, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 and what I needed. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed! It runs very light in the background, and I can even work on other stuff while it's scanning. I like the user interface especially, basically from set up to scan it is way easy to use. So after over a month using it I'm definitely open to recommending Intego's Mac internet security 2013 to others -- it is an excellent product!

"MUCH easier to use than X6"

February 19, 2013  |  By aframpkin

 |  Version: Intego Mac Internet Security 2013 10.7.1

Pros

I was able to completely mess up my Mac with the old X6 version, there were too many options I didn't understand (I clicked them anyways...). I am not a technoid, just want to keep prying eyes out. The settings in this version are very simple. Also has a very cool realtime display showing which apps are using the internet.

Cons

Maybe needs a log of what it is finding or blocking.

Summary

Vastly improved over old X6 version. Great for non-technical mutts like me.

"NetBarrier X7 is a downgrade from X6 version!"

January 04, 2013  |  By remyleroy

 |  Version: Intego Mac Internet Security 2013 10.7

Pros

A nice user interface

Cons

While NetBarrier X6 included within VirusBarrier X6 was a very efficient and fully configurable firewall, NetBarrier X7, coming with Internet Security 2013, is designed for dummies!

Nothing can be configured and you can only choose to open or close internet access (inward and outward) to your applications

If you need to open a specific port or map your ports configuration.... it's no more possible

No log anymore and many utiliies, (traceroute, whois, wifi explorer, traffic monitor, ...) have simply gone!

If you use VirusBarrier X6, even though the "upgrade" is free, just keep VirusBarrier X6

(and if you want to test Internet Security 2013, don't forget to save your VirusBarrier X6 configuration first as you will need to re-import it if you want to reinstall this version after having tested the new one. When Internet Security 2013 is installed, it will suppress any file and configuration linked with the previous version)

Summary

Don't "upgrade" if you need the use of a fully configurable firewall (the one included with VirusBarrier X6)
