"Small, Fast, Perfect -- A Must Have"
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.7.5
Pros
I have this installed on every one of my computers, work and home. Once it scans the computer, results are instantaneous. Also searches networked drives and folders if desired
Cons
I have no dislikes about IFNS
Summary
I got real tired of watching that Windows dog wag its tail while waiting endlessly for the simplest of file searches to complete. I turn off the built-in Windows search feature completely and use this.

Cons

"On my short list of cool utilities"
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.7
Pros
This is one of the first programs I put on every new computer. The built-in search feature that comes with Windows is intolerable, and this thing is quick and easy.

"Not a useful tool,"
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.6
Pros
Free to use,
Cons
Caching disk everytime when you run this program!! Try Ava Find or Instant File Find to instead of this one.

"Very useful in conjunction with exalead desktop"
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.4
Pros
Very fast search of all filenames on hard disk, providing you disable the "rescan on program startup" option. I use this in conjunction with Exalead desktop which is the best program for seaching file content and emails as well, but I have limited exaleads search to certain directories otherwise the index would be massive.
Cons
Can't copy and paste from results list is the only limitation

"Does not seem to work..."
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.4
Pros
Seems easy to use and fast
Cons
Could not get the Booleans, esp. AND and NOT, to work.

"Fast searches after building the index."
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.4
Pros
This type of search uses a catalog to make search very fast (under a second) as compared to actual disk searching, like Microsoft's. Building the catalog can take quite a while (11 minutes for my 300,000 files, about half on my LAN), but you don't have to do that very often. It also can handle LAN files.
Cons
If it has a weakness, it is that you can't access the files from the search results. But the list does include the file location and other info.

"Free and still not worth it!!! DON'T DOWNLOAD!"
Version: Instant File Name Search 1.3
Pros
Nothing
Cons
This program is living proof that you get what you pay for. First issue: Before searching it must complete an arduous scan of all the files on your hard drive. This can take a long time if you have over 100,000 files like me. Plus the scan process is so klunky and memory consumptive that even with 768MB RAM on this computer my applications were lagging with the scan running in the background. Once you run the program it loads itself into your system tray where it consumes more memory monitoring your file activity. When you finally call on it to do a search, it searches quickly (once it has done the initial file scan) - but only because it has been holding you up the entire time it has been running.
Second Issue: This jackass of a program decides that it should run at startup - so everytime you reboot your computer you have to sit and wait while it scans all your files again.
With all the crap that mysteriously ends up on our computers these days, thankfully this is one that you don't have to put on there. Download.com should remove this program from the site. It is one of the worst I have ever downloaded.
