    "Somewhat useless, Be advised!!"

    by Mikon8er on July 10, 2009

Pros: Can create .svg png .gif .bmp .tiff, and others, and its free.

Cons: Its user interface is extremely difficult or impossible to use, and every time i attempt to import or paste an image it gives my a 2 weird error messages & crashes without warning.

And it is also an unecessary resource hog.

Summary: I would advise sticking with Microsoft Paint or otherwise using a competing photoshop application until the specified problems (including operating system incompatibilities) are fixed, If the supposedly "nonprofit" organisation responsible for this thing is determiined to never fix these problems, I will NEVER use this program again :( .

I fully agree with Guy_T's reply. It seems to me that you should upgrade your PC's memory. From my experience, Inkscape works perfectly well with Windows XP if you have at least 1GB, which doesn't cost much these days. I don't know how it works on other operating systems.
Also, Microsoft Paint is very basic and cannot create SVG.

    Hello Mikon8er. >Your review July 10, 2009.

Pardon me, but I would say "Somewhat great. Be advised!!"

User interface = difficult or impossible to use? NO! I am new to Inkscape and after a short time exploring the icons and menus I feel comfortable with it. I used the "Create & edit text objects" to write a word with "Vladimir Script", a font I never heard about. In another layer, I prepared a transparent background and sticked it over the word, making a single object from both.

Import and/or paste = error messages and crash? NO. I made a cocktail of one .svg and two .jpg files. I combined all of that into a single object and exported as a .png file. OK!

Furthermore Inkscape offers an on-line tutorial that even a kid could understand.
