Version: Industryplayer 2.23
"A slick and professionally put together business sim, which compels the player"
Pros: Industry Player immediately grabs you from the minute you open its game console. It is by far the highest standard of text-based game on the internet, offering an exciting array of attractive and interesting buttons, options, choices and challenges to navigate through and a host of exciting features to explore.
It requires considerable skill and dedicated playing time to master. You build a corporate empire of 5 companies and the sim tests your skills to beat your competitors. How skilfully you may Target competitor companies and execute corporate take-overs, manage your production of products, (sold to other players' companies), and buy your materials (from other players' companies), together with securing the optimum sales prices, will all reflect in your Holding's rate of success. The sim is realistically dynamic in the way it tracks supply and demand and how these impact upon your profitability, so you must keep an eye on who is producing what. A real-time ticker keeps you informed of what your competitors are up to. Disasters, labour strikes, insurance, product quality, interest rates, credit and taxation levels must be monitored too. Take your eye off your credit rating and you could be "cut down".
The game-speed is excellent, the quality of the software and server capability are high end. IP offers a free trial for the first level, (60 turns). There are a total of 10 Levels, 120 turns each. Players also have the opportunity to play Level 2 for free, if they purchase the gold version. There are good opportunities to win free credits to keep playing with. After the 10th Level, the idea is to go back and start again, to try to improve your scores - so gameplay is infinite.
The gold version offers a comprehensive range of tools to analyse your performance and the status of IP's very dynamic markets, with graphs and tables to consult to give your Holding a competitive edge. I have no doubt at all that this game has the potential to storm the market, given time.
Cons: There are a few minor design issues, which are sure to be sorted out by a very responsive development team. The level of the content of mathematical challenge may not appeal to everyone and the chances to rescue your position, if you make a wrong move, are possibly too limited, which could deter new players from trying again, because a bad move cuts your emprie down fairly mercilessly.
