    "Simple, powerful, perfect"

    December 8, 2013  |   By johhnsonn

    Version: Indigo 6.0.7

    Pros

    simple to set up
    powerful extensibility
    ultra-reliable
    a joy to use

    Cons

Boredom. I'm so used to de-bugging my home automation systems. Indigo has not required this type of maintenance. So I don't know what to do with my spare time.

    Summary

I'm a previous long-time user of Homeseer and Micasaverde Vera. I wanted something more reliable (than vera) and simpler (than homeseer) yet powerful and expandable. I stumbled upon Indigo and have not looked back.

I run Indigo 6 Pro on a dedicated Mac Mini which runs silently in a closet with a z-wave adapter. It controls my thermostat, Sonos music system, alarm system, and several lights and appliances. It has never crashed or failed to do what it is supposed to do.

    Amazing software.

"The best just got better with Z-Wave added"

    December 8, 2013  |   By col111

    Version: Indigo 6.0.7

    Pros

Indigo is now up to version 6 having had constant development with Z-wave and Python now added.

This software has always been rock solid only let down by some of the hardware such as X10, now we have Z-wave we have great hardware and software.

The support from the guys at Perceptive Automation is second to none and they are always there to help on the forum.

If you are into home automation then look no further.

    Cons

None that I can thing of

"Wish it lived up to its claims"

    December 2, 2012  |   By mhoedt

    Version: Indigo 6.0b1

    Pros

Control everything from your imac, iphone, or ipad

    Cons

It doesn't do what it claims

    Summary

I've been trying to make the Indigo and Insteon system work since 2006. Every one of my Insteon devides has failed at least once, and some are on their 4th failure. For each failure, you have to delete the failed device and all the links that are created in each and every other Insteon device, which can get amazingly tedious with more than a couple devices.

When you delete a device in Indigo, you get a popup message that this will delete all links associated with the device as well. Not true. All the links stay there and now become non-editable "unknown devices" that interfere with proper operation. Then, the only way to remove those links is to do a factory reset of each and every Insteon device that includes those links.

And just in case this isn't enough to discourage you from using this technology, I bought a new lamp dimmer to replace yet another failed one, and got the error message that I now have to pay to upgrade my version of Indigo. After doing so, I then got another error message that I had to upgrade my hardware as well, so it's still not working.

This software and hardware remains bug-ridden and sloppy and extremely time-consuming. Really tired of giving you people the benefit of the doubt, because you just don't live up to any of the claims you make for ease of use or functionality. Watch your back, because your competitors will quickly trample you in this day and age.

"Best software on Mac for home automation."

    November 21, 2011  |   By brooks2

    Version: Indigo 5.0.1

    Pros

Good user interface and the functionality is very customizable via AppleScript/Python. As one example, I use AppleScript to query my weather station for temperature and rainfall, then make adjustments to the amount I water the lawn.

Customer support from Perceptive Automation is also very good.

    Cons

The Pro version is a bit expensive.

    "Works Great, Wonderful Support"

    May 7, 2008  |   By agoltz

    Version: Indigo 3.0

    Summary

Ive used this for two years with all my insteon switches at home. Version progress is slow and steady (as anything that is done by a small or one man team is)

The developer answers almost all posts on his forums (and there are a lot) and it very helpful.

I highly recommend this product. It is the cornerstone of my home automation system.

I have to say this software is the best, it just darn works!
OK price is a little high BUT the support alone is worth that, Matt posts a reply to my questions within hours. I am a BIG fan of this software and would recommend it to anyone. Updates are regular with new futures added often.

    "Too much money"

    January 22, 2007  |   By dbrienza

    Version: Indigo 2.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have to agree with the other posts here about the cost. I was waiting for 2.0 to become available to pay the $90 (reluctantly). $200 is way out of the range I would be willing to pay for a product like this.

I guess this could be a positive if it encourages others to develope applications with similar functionality.

Has anyone had success with thier intel macs running the FREE windows software that comes with thier controllers with Parallels?

    "WaY OverPRICED for Most People"

    January 10, 2007  |   By palm_beach_florida

    Version: Indigo 2.0.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Most people just want to turn the lights on and off. If you make the program look jazzy that's fine. The most successful small software programmers/sellers keep the price affordable so when most hard working people see the price they say, "I can afford that", I will paypal or whatever. Graphic Converter is one of the best programs and success stories and he did it by selling volume. If you sold this program for 30.00 you would get 100s of new customers right away. You will never build up a customer base with the price at 89.95, and now you want to charge 200.00? I would pay 30.00 for the program and IM sure many other people feel the same way. Graphic Converter has made the big money because when people see the price they buy it right away. Not the case here...
