"A classic in its own right! Jesus Christ#!!"

    February 21, 2014  |   By fujitsulover

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

    FREE and it works

    Cons

In its own category it is supreme

    Summary

I have been using this humble software for maybe 2 or 3 years, which is a pretty short time, and it has kept all my files intact so far! The only feature I do not use is pretty much a lot of it because it is so complete. However, I always fall back on it for important tasks. I just received the paid competitor as a gift and I really like the fact that you can add to the boot image easily. The competitor is WinISO. However, both are in my highly rated collection. I would NOT trade or sell any of it for the world. As many softwares out there do the same thing, I am just used to imgburn which is tried and true. Besides, you cannot beat free!!!!!!!!!! If I had to choose between the paid for WinISO or imgburn, I have to be honest and say I have used imgburn for so long that I have come to trust and rely on it. I just wish I knew how to add files and make the image bootable. That is why I enjoy WinISO. WinISO makes adding files to a bootable disc a breeze. Just speaking of myself, I am stupid and do not know anything#!!hehe So I need all the help I can get from both imgburn and WinISO. Thank you all as my one family member would say

"Much Better than WMP..., and Not malware!"

    February 18, 2014  |   By scottls59901

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

Copies the complete audio CD, unlike WMP (Highest 192 recording option, but still lops off 25%).

I can save the full original CD image to my slave HD, for later use...

Easy to Verify after burn (1min...).

    Cons

I was careful to opt-out during Custom installation, but still installed Eye Candy advertising (PUP, but not malware(Virus Total, and 3 top-rated AV scans))!?
Had to run "Full" MBAM scan to delete PUPs (temp disable your active AV until Restart)! Grrr :o(

The author inserts silly/un-needed narrative, but it's freeware (poetic license).

    Summary

A little slower, but I get 100% of original (Lots of coasters With WMP, and CD BurnerXP).

    There is a learning curve!-
Manually eject CD, then Mode back to Selection Page..., for next process...

    "useless to me"

    February 13, 2014  |   By batvette

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

    none that I could find

    Cons

despite simple interface, can't figure out how to simply burn some photo files to a disc.

    Summary

So I had no problem navigating my way through the crapware they try to put in the install(c'mon people it's right there in front of you how can you miss it?) but this is just a useless program. Couldn't figure out how to just burn some photos onto a disc to play on a slideshow. Lousy interface would look dated back in windows 95 days. Waste of time.

    "Works fine-pay attention during install"

    February 11, 2014  |   By moonwatcher99

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

Program works great, does what I tell it to, and is fairly simple. Requires no special knowledge to use.

    Cons

None so far. Install process requires a couple of extra button pushes.

    Summary

Everybody saying this program is loaded with malware obviously didn't pay attention to their screens during install. I managed to install this with zero add ons. The new norm for install options is, instead of selecting standard install (or express, or whatever it calls it) you have to select custom, then uncheck the boxes to avoid the extra programs. I think the first screen lets you opt out without changing the install option, but the second definitely requires you to select custom install. That's all. No big deal, just requires paying a bit of attention, instead of mindlessly hitting next. I've already used the program several times, and it gave me no trouble. I also have no new add ons on my browser or desktop.

    "DO NOT INSTALL-- MALWARE"

    February 3, 2014  |   By Paullco

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

I usually trust software from CNET but you have lied to me. This program is UNSAFE and has one of those programs that Changes settings.

    Cons

This program Changes your HOMEPAGE and causes POP-UPS. Hard to get RID OF and people that write these programs have a special place in HELL. Changed HOMEPAGE and caused REGISTRY errors. CNET....I have lost ALL trust in you...... I thought more of this site.

"The program is good but Mailware IS BAD!!!"

    January 22, 2014  |   By bryder75

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

This has always been my go-to program for burning CD's and DVD's, but not any more.

    Cons

The installer is dishonest and says that you can opt-out of the add-on crud that is bundled with it, but installs it anyway.

    Summary

Don't use this until they return from the Dark Side.
(DEVELOPER: PLEASE FIX THESE ISSUES. IT WAS GREAT SOFTWARE.)

"formerly THE go-to burning app, now broken with malware"

    November 29, 2013  |   By cestrad

    Version: ImgBurn 2.5.8

    Pros

    None any longer

    Cons

just google imgburn + opencandy + malware, there isn't much more I can say that hasn't been said. This program was once upon a time something that I would recommend to friends, now I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

On their support page, they keep saying that users can opt out of the (malware) bundled into their new installers. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I opted out, it installed a whole bunch of garbage anyway. If you go to their support forums, you will see that this is happening to lots of people but the program author keeps locking (and/or deleting) threads with complaints. I have spent the last few hours attempting to disinfect my computer, if I could post logs from Spyboy and Malware-Bytes, I could show you the HUNDREDS of entries directly related to this.

    Summary

So, while it is standard practice to bundle garbage with freeware, the opt out process is nearly always transparent and actually OPTS OUT. IMGBURN has chosen to include VERY aggressive and difficult-to-get-rid-of applications that WILL hijack your system and 'phone home.' The program authors claims that any unwanted installations are the end-users fault and problem are just disingenuous (at best!). I for one will never EVER use this program again.
