Version: IconPackager 4.1
"Corrupted my explorer.exe files. Aaargh!!"
Pros: Good icon packages. Easy to use; though not for a novice. You better read all the instructions in their "help" section before even getting started.
Cons: I still run XP pro and the icons for "recent documents" and "my computer" and "desktop" revert back to Windows default as soon as any of those folders are accessed; sort of defeats the purpose of changing them in the first place!
Summary: I paid $20 and after hours of searching user forums, downloading other software, doing manually workarounds to actually replace the offending icons within the Shell32.dll folder, iI was finally able to change all my icons to my liking. I didn't realize I was embarking on such a frustrating project.
The real issue with this program, and is the reason I rated as low a possible, is it corrupted files and caused explorer.exe (desktop start-up) to crash repeatedly when starting my computer. Now that was painful. I had to install Windows Debugger to get rid of the offending files. I also had to completely remove this program using Revo Uninstaller (give that one a 5 star rating!). Twenty bucks and countless hours later, I've learned download.com is not a trustworthy as I thought.
