"infrarecorder, also free, is more intuitive"

    June 21, 2011  |   By davea05112

Version: ISO Recorder (Windows Vista 32-bit) 3

    Pros

free and pretty easy once you can find it.

    Cons

doesn't even give you icons in normal places to start it up.

    Summary

get infrarecorder, select "burn image" then select the .iso file. No matter what tool you use, don't select the fastest speed possible. Only noobs do that, as it's begging for trouble.

"Simple and Works How it Should"

    February 27, 2010  |   By zasyatkin

Version: ISO Recorder (Windows Vista 32-bit) 3

    Pros

Super easy, just right click on a file, choose "Open With" and then choose "ISO Recorder" from the options. It pops up and will tell you if the disk inserted can be written to. Then you just hit "Write" button and it even open the tray once its done.

    Cons

It would be nice if it told you the name of the file that it completed burning on the "Done" screen.

    Summary

    Super lightweight and easy utility.

"Simple, easy to use! What Vista should have had."

    October 2, 2009  |   By krishkal

Version: ISO Recorder (Windows Vista 32-bit) 3

    Pros

Does what Vista should have done (Mac OSX has always had the feature): Make iso images of disks, or copy disk to disk, or burn iso images to disk. Easy to use shell extension.

    Cons

A bit quirky; I had a CD in one drive, and a blank medium in another. It could not figure out that the copy was supposed to happen from the full disk to the blank disk, and chose the other way as the default! No big deal.

    Summary

If you are looking to fill the void that Windows has left in terms of being able to copy disks and create iso images, this is the program for you. I have NO idea why Microsoft chose not to implement this as part of the OS, but this little gem fits perfectly as a shell extension (no need to launch a program, just right click on the drive icon in "Computer", and choose copy, burn, etc.). If you need more instructions there is a small tutorial on the developer's site, which comes up when you install the latest version. Otherwise just put ISO Recorder in a search engine to find the web site. BTW, the developer site has a later release 3.1, which adds Windows 7 compatibility, Blu-Ray, etc. Free and easy, this is a no-brainer addition to any XP, Vista or Windows 7 installation.

"Been using Alex Feinman's ISO recorders for years now."

    February 26, 2009  |   By leetcr

Version: ISO Recorder (Windows Vista 32-bit) 3

    Pros

Simple and easy to use. Installs into context menu (right mouse click menu). Just right click on an object and select the appropriate command, thats it.

    Cons

Limited functionality , however that is also its strength ie simplicity

    Summary

It does what it's meant to do. If you want to create an iso image from a cd/dvd that you have or from a file or if you need to burn an iso to a cd/dvd it can do that. Right click an iso, folder or cd & select "create iso image" or "burn iso image."

I have been using Alex Feinman's ISO recorders for years, as an essential add on to windows operating systems.

    "Bootable DVDs?"

    December 24, 2008  |   By allendick

Version: ISO Recorder (Windows Vista 32-bit) 3

    Pros

Small size, easy interface. Runs and uninstalls well.

    Cons

I tried burning a Knoppix 5.3 DVD from an iso with this program and the disk completed OK, but failed to boot. There is very little documentation, even at the home page, after you find it. Nothing comes with the download.

    Summary

I have used this program before, and burned bootable CDs with it, as I recall, so it was my first choice when I wanted to make a Knoppix 5.3 DVD from an iso. So, I downloaded ISO Recorder and it made the disk OK, but the disk failed to boot on two different machines. I threw it out.

I then downloaded and used Active@ ISO Burner with the same iso, and that disk booted. I also downloaded and tried Free DVD ISO Burner, and it made a disk that booted.

Maybe it was just bad luck? At any rate none of the programs mention making a bootable disk. They just burn the iso with few options. I can't recall. Maybe the boot option is in the making of the iso. At any rate, this program works and the right click access is OK, but I uninstalled it and will stick to the others.

    "TOTAL CRAP"

    December 20, 2008  |   By pinkfloydforever

Version: ISO Recorder (Windows Vista 32-bit) 3

    Pros

I do not like to write reviews but this program is TOTAL CRAP. I just can't start it.
    No pros at all.

    Cons

It is in .zip files. Download folder shows no .exe files so I was unable to start it.
Hop I'll be able to remove this junk from my laptop.

    Summary

This program must be written by some linux guy who wants to move computing back to 16th century. Just awful. This installer was from windows 3.1, whole program is crap.
