Despite carefully clicking around the toobar "options," I still ended up with unwanted extensions added to every browser, and a malicious DLL file that thankfully my antivirus caught immediately. If you installed this version, please run antivirus and search your computer for "foodbuzz."

"Awesome Recorder"

Pros
Fairly easy to use. Captures just about everything & anything: youtube, webinars, streaming media, etc. Latest version 2.27 doesn't even have the watermark anymore. Great recorder for the price: free.
Cons
No complaints. Just make sure you untick requests to put toolbars & adware to avoid malware junk. Sometimes audio and video are out of sync, but that can be adjusted one way or the other.
Summary
I've used hypercam for years with no issues. However on this latest re-install ( PC reformatted to remove nasty viruses) I had no sound, just like the other comments. After searching the forums high & low, finally figured it out: my recorder level was set too low, and my speakers volume was too low. Dble click the speaker icon (by clock icon,righthand corner taskbar): Volume Control > Options > Properties. You should see radio buttons for 'Playback' and 'Recorder'. Click 'Recorder' and make sure volume bar is set adequately. If still no sound, lots of tips on the tech forums, espec. hyperionics ( hypercam) forum.
The volume setting on your speakers affects how loud you can record. After upgrading to some good stereo speakers, I can fully control the quality and loudness of the recording via those stereo speakers. A graphic equalizer can also help fine-tune audio quality. -

It DOES NOT install spyware or toolbars. If you are too stupid to uncheck the toolbar option plus the additional software option on the following screen then you deserve to be plagued by them.Cons
Audio didn't record for my video (Dell Optiplex with Realtek audio), but neither did Screencast, SMRecorder or CamStudio so it must be my PC. Interface is not as slick as the others but effective.

May need to convert video file type to reduce size and increase compatibility. Any Video Converter is great for that purpose - mpeg4 is a good file type choice.

During installation, even if you tell it not to install the "Sweet IM" program, toolbars, etc. it installs them. It takes a lot of manual work to remove all this crap ware.

It installs MALWARE (IMHO) in the form of Intelibar in more places than you can imagine!
Summary
If you install it, plan on extensive cleanup session to get rid of Malware Intelibar - which hijacks browsers in many ways. Easy but annoying to get rid of everywhere, especially in Chrome.

Contains adware no matter what you don't want installed yes it's bundled. CNET/Download.com used to display on it's home page No Adware, No Spyware, or Viruses. The mighty dollar sure done away with that statement. Make sure when you download and install from CNET/Download.com you scan your computer. I'm putting this review on the other HyperCam Download it to contains Adware. Thanks for nothing CNET/Download.com Sell Out.

It doesn't record webcam video as promised
The installer ask if it is ok to install some extra's. Even wenn unchecked, a lot of stuff was installed, llike extra bars in my browsers. It changed the default search engine for my brosers and changed the startpage. These are the things that make the internet such an unpleasent place from time to time.Summary
Please install this, if you are up to a lot of changes made to your computer. And if you don't mind to install software that doesn't even do what it promises.
