"Does Not Fully Protect IP IDENTITY"

    March 20, 2013  |   By smokiebandit

    Pros

Hides your real IP on most IP checker sites.

    Cons

DOES NOT HIDE YOUR REAL IP ON http://www.whatismyip.com/ Your REAL IP gets revealed by this IP CHECKER SITE, even while you have Hotspot Shield Protection turned on. So, if this site can capture your real IP then obviously OUR browsing session is not as private as we may have thought with Hotspot Shield. Don't just take my word for it. Browse to the IP checker site I mentioned above and see for your self. Your real IP address will be revealed, even with Hotspot Shield activated. Thats A BIG CONCERN!

    Summary

If your REAL IP gets revealed by an IP checker site, instead of the anonymous IP issued under Hotspot Shield. Then your browsing session IS NOT private, and therefore your not fully protected. Once again, thats a BIG CONCERN!

I checked my IP at http://www.whatismyip.com/ and numerous other similar sites and this product works as advertised for me. They report an IP address several states away from me when I have Hotspot shield engaged as well as reporting "no proxy detected", and my real IP address is displayed when I check with Hotspot Shield disengaged.

Have you tried AnchorFree about this problem that you have noticed? There may be a simple solution to the problem or a workaround that you haven't considered yet. There's also the possibility that the reason your IP can be detected is because the request is being sent from your computer but that wouldn't be useful to anyone else on a different computer (ie on the same free wifi connection etc). Try contacting AnchorFree customer support and see what they say.
