"Small, easy to setup, works"
Version: Home Ftp Server 1.10.0.132
Pros
The configuration interface is intuitive and easy to use. It has a reasonable feature set for a simple ftp server for a local home network. I have it serving my small home network from an XP box which is firewalled from the internet..
Cons
At this point, there are no complaints.

"It works, it's free. What more could I ask?"
Version: Home Ftp Server 1.4.5 build 84
Pros
The software has a very small footprint. It's quick and easy to install and use, provided that you can figure out how to forward the correct ports through any firewalls you may have. (That's something you'll have to figure out no matter what FTP server software you use.) Once you resolve that issue, the program is easy to configure to begin sharing your files over the web. Keep in mind that your server's speed will be limited by your upload speed. With residential cable and DSL internet service, it will probably be no more than about 40 KB/s. Over your Local Network, the program will serve up folders and files with blazing speed. Local performance actually seems faster than transferring files with Windows Networking.
Cons
There isn't a lot of help available on the author's home page. The program interface could also use a help section with some pointers on getting your hardware settings right for the server to make it out onto the web. The author could also use a little help with his broken English. No offense intended. I still recommend the software.

"Works Well"
Version: Home Ftp Server 1.4.2
Pros
Home FTP Server allows me to download and upload files, move them, rename them, and delete them. I can also make multiple accounts and assign permissions to them. It lets me decide what directory I start in when I log on, lets me browse all subdirectories of that directory automatically, and I can create virtual links to different folders on the same drive and on other drives. It also includes a web interface that lets me add and remove accounts from any web browser. Finally, it's free!!!
Cons
The passwords aren't ****'d out on the Ftp Server tab or in the web interface tab in the settings dialog, which annoys me. The web interface does match the text color of the password with the background color, but I can still see the password if I highlight it. Fortunately, I don't often look at those tabs.
