"Great for years :-D"
Version: HijackThis 2.0.5 beta
Pros
Fast and easy to use when you know the "right" things to remove. Great when Windows is especially messed up/infected.
Cons
You don't have to be a PC pro per-se...but knowing the right sites to check your "results" helps with not removing things that are important or legit..so a little more leg work then auto scan/remove
Summary
Hello :-D
While I honestly haven't used this for Windows 7 (just about too) I have used this program for over 5yrs. I think its fantastic..we honestly used it *alot* back at Circuit City Firedog..gets rid of some real nastys. Big tip: I do not use any other site for checking the log other then hijackthis.de ..its a german site..shows up in english..and once you paste the log in the empty box then analyze..its never given me a problem. I've never even used the programs "check" button..always the site. :) -
"Do not use this-it can remove valid registry entries-"
Version: HijackThis 2.0.5 beta
Pros
None that I know of.
Cons
This tool can remove important Windows files leaving your system unusable.
Summary
This tool claims to deep scan and remove viruses that no other software can. But it is just too risky to use as it can remove important Windows files and registry keys causing problems for your Windows operating system. Leaving you no option but to reinstall Windows. So forget this tool. If you want to scan for viruses use the Windows Defender and Malicious Software removal tool-MRT provided and bundled with Windows 7 and Windows Vista. And windows XP users can also get Windows defender and MRT from the Microsoft website. BUT DO NOT USE THIS TOOL_HIJACK THIS. Or any other third party software like it for that matter. As it is too risky to use. Andrea Borman.
It is not safe to trust this or any third party software. That is why we have got Windows Defender and MRT bundled with Windows 7 and Windows Vista. And these can be used on Windows XP. I don't believe in anti-virus programs anyway. I just use the Windows Defender and MRT provided. But if you are security conscious and must use an anti-virus program. Then get Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free. And made by Microsoft the same people who made Windows. At least then you know who you are dealing with, and that you are using safe software. Not third party unknown software like this-Hijack This. Andrea Borman.

"It is not advisable to use this program-too many risks-"
Version: HijackThis 1.99.1
Pros
None that I know of.
Cons
This program can remove items from the registry that are part of Windows damaging your computer.
Summary
This program claims to scan deeper than anti-virus scans. Which I never use as I don't believe in anti-virus software. And this program claims to remove malware that other software cannot find. It scans and then you choose if you want to remove what it finds including registry entries and files. But it is just too risky as it does not tell you should do. It just gives you the results and then you decide if or not to remove it. But this removes important Windows files and registry keys claiming that they are infected. And this could make your computer unusable, resulting in a reinstall of Windows. So DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THIS SOFTWARE. If you want to scan for malware and viruses, use the Windows Defender and Malicious Software Removal Tool-MRT. That is provided and bundled with Windows 7,and Windows Vista. And Windows XP users can also get MRT and Windows defender from the Microsoft website. These two tools will scan for and remove viruses, spy ware and malware. And they are bundled with Windows 7 and Windows Vista and can be used on Windows XP as well. These are the genuine tools for Windows and the only ones you need to use. Not this unknown and dangerous software-Hijack This. which you should not use. Andrea Borman.
