"This map is a piece of art and unimaginable gameplay!"

    February 15, 2001  |

    Version: Half-Life: Vidar's Niflheim Map 2.0

    Summary

I'm a beginner mapper, and the skill Neil Manke has for mapping is unimagineable. I hope that more dedicated servers pick this map up and put it on their maplist. ::wink:: ::wink to HomeAlliance servers:: The r_speeds on this map rarely go above 400 w_polys, meaning that all comps should be able to play this without any slowdowns. I'm on a K-7 @ 800 with a Voodoo 3 2000 @ 166 mhz and this game runs at 100fps. This map is a triumph for the community and a perfect example of the skill and mastery that Manke has for HL and it's engine.

    "This sucks!"

    February 14, 2001  |

    Version: Half-Life: Vidar's Niflheim Map 2.0

    Summary

I may be alone here, but Neil Manke is NOT a mod master, and he's NOT a good level designer. Just because someone puts the Cnet (or PC Gamer) logo in a map, doesn't mean it's good. It just means that the mapper can't rely on his skills to make his maps shine through the rest of the maps that are out there. TFC is definitely not Neil's mod to be mapping for. His levels just reek of someone who has no care for what he puts out there, as long people download it. This is evidenced in version 2 of vidars. Good luck getting the TFC community to download a custom map and play anything but 2fort, but to give them an updated version? Please. You can't pry the common TFC player's web browser away from their porn site long enough to steer them towards CNET or Fileplanet, let alone get the to do it twice. Practice up on how you do this Neil, you may attain average soon. And if you want a good map to download, read a review site first, not some spam from an "impartial news site" (nice add in the respawn CNET) BTW, did your boy Neil update it so that the "HOM" effect appears in more places now? Or did I just miss some bad rock construction the first time through this POS?
