Version: HTTrack Website Copier 3.32-2
"causes too many fatal exceptions in explorer"
Pros: when I downloaded this I thought it was the answer to my problem... I needed access to net based research fo when I'm overseas.. this seemed ideal I could download entire sites, save to disc and create my own off-line web library. the program does work but....
Cons: causes constant fatal errors in explorer and complete shut downs (computer crashes and restarts without warning). Each crash results in disc errors which if you don't deal with each time ,lead to completely unstabalizing the operating system... in my case win 98se + unofficial service pack. I needed this program or at least it's capabilities so much so that I actually went through the process of re-installing the operating system 4 times and leavng all out except the essential programs.. but it made no difference. I have a T1 connection and so am able to download quite large sites at relatively high speed but any site over 400MB became impossible to capture. Restarting the mirror after a crash would have been acceptable if the download began from where it ended but it did not... the program would simply begin again at the index page and sure enough after 4 hours it would crash again... I have a lot of patience particularly when a program can be so useful but this on has worn it very thin. If you need copier then and your only downloading specific file types or small sites then try teleport but if like me your downloading whole complex sites you are, unless you pay, left with only this option.... great shame that it is so unsable on microsofts most stable operating system..
