Version: HTTrack Website Copier 3.43-7
"Good, stable program. Does the job well."
Pros: 1 - Free.
2 - Quite stable, easy to use if you follow the simple directions.
3 - Mirroring level is adjustable from "skim the surface" to full-depth mirroring.Cons: Not really a con, but sometimes the program will take a lot longer than expected as it 'spiders' its way through a site, particularly when mirroring at depth. User needs to be aware and allow sufficient time.
Summary: This is a great program which I have used several times. I am a middle-school teacher at a school that does not have Internet capability in all areas of the campus. This lets me bring in Internet content and allow the kids to browse it just as if they were on the site. It creates fairly compact mirror files without using up a lot of space. The one line summary? It just plain WORKS.
Updated on Aug 27, 2009Note: A second use for this program is acrhiving your own site. Not long ago, I mangled my "only" copy of an important website page I had written. Remembering the HTTRACK copy I had, I loaded up the site copy, displayed the page I wanted, did a "View Source Code" in my browser and re-captured the code I needed. It saved me a lot of work.
