"Worst printer I have ever owned."

    December 20, 2011  |   By cimzoc

Version: HP Photosmart C4400 series 61.073.263.21

    Pros

    Absolutely nothing.

    Cons

    See below.

    Summary

I received this printer free from Apple back in 2008 when I purchased my Macbook. It looks like a lot of other people have also received this printer for free. Look at it this way, if I could magically go into a time machine I would most certainly tell the associate I purchased my Macbook from that I would tell them to PAY ME to take this HORRIBLE PIECE OF GARBAGE off of their hands. Getting it for free just does not cut it. It's not a very heavy printer, but the effort taking it home from the Apple store was more than it deserves.

When I first got this printer there were constant paper jams. The paper jams were so horrible that it would eat my paper. In addition to paper waste, I have gone through extensive research on this model, and no matter what I do I get crappy prints. Even if it's a simple black and white print of a research paper, it's a crappy print. Yes I have changed settings in the software to try and remedy this. Yes I have purchased new cartridges. This thing is simply crap.

I think the reason it was even offered for free was because HP knew it was crap, and they knew they could make money from people having to get new cartridges... again and again.

Today I finally got the "incompatible print cartridge" warning. I bought a new print cartridge from Staples three months ago, and I have used that same cartridge with this printer (SURPRISINGLY) with no problems. For THREE WHOLE MONTHS. Amazing, I know. And then today it tells me it's incompatible. So I go online to find solutions, I follow instructions for every single solution (cotton swabs and all that jazz) and nope.

I have had HP printers in the past that have given me problems, but this model takes the whole damn cake. I will never buy, nor accept a FREE HP printer ever again. I have wasted ink, paper, and hundreds of frustrated hours cursing like a sailor at the software and this is enough.

I will be getting a new printer when the new semester starts. And I will take this model out to the alley out back, with a sledgehammer, and upload a video on Youtube for everyone who has suffered frequent migraines on this model to enjoy.

    "It's always something."

    August 26, 2010  |   By tlc1952

Version: HP Photosmart C4400 series 61.073.263.21

    Pros

    Small size fits conveniently anywhere.

    Cons

    Won't scan; won't copy

    Summary

It cannot detect the alignment page so it can scan it. When I try to make a copy of a paper, it prints a solid black sheet, using up all my black ink.

"The most consistently crappy printer I've ever owned"

    March 23, 2010  |   By jsrhworth

Version: HP Photosmart C4400 series 61.073.263.21

    Pros

    The all in one aspect

    Cons

Consistent paper jams, printer cartridge stalls, and scanner freezes requiring shut down and restart almost 75% of the time

    Summary

This printer has made me seriously reconsider ever purchasing another HP product (have called HP several times - best they can do is suggest that I take it back to the place I purchased it).

"Good overall, but fussy paper handling"

    February 6, 2010  |   By dlcooper52

Version: HP Photosmart C4400 series 61.073.263.21

    Pros

Generally good performance, printing and scanning. Compact footprint. Good internal operating system. HP quality photo printing. Ink cartridges easily refillable.

    Cons

Fussy paper handling. Balks at paper weights above 24. Shows "no paper" before empty. Can't handle any curl of photo paper, esp small, say 4 X 6, photo paper

    Summary

Contrary to the other reviewer's experience, I found good photo print quality, compaered to my experiences with Canon and Lexmark. Colors were sharp and vibrant. Little aliasing and "lines". Scanner works well. Compact footprint is a plus. Cartridges can be refilled if you don't mind the "nag screens". Generally good, HP style, customer support.

"Not very good for printing pictures."

    January 5, 2010  |   By susan-baker

Version: HP Photosmart C4400 series 61.073.263.21

    Pros

I like the scan feature for PC use. Makes descent copies. I like the way it prints your documents, printing the last page first so you don't have to organize them after they print.

    Cons

Poor picture quality. Doesn't print the whole picture. Problems with scanning.

    Summary

I would not buy this model it came free with the purchase of a MAC. The picture quality is poor, very pale. It also cuts off the top 1/2" or so of your picture. It also has trouble picking up a 4 x 6 photo paper. You have to push in the photo paper once it starts or it says it's out of paper. It has trouble scanning from the printer to the PC so you have to go into your control panel and click on the printer and scan from the PC. It won't scan at all on a MAC, but it does print documents on a MAC.
