This highly customizable, feature-packed bowling game impressed us so much that the relatively short 60-minute trial period flew right by. The excellent, professional-looking graphics are complimented by an eclectic soundtrack that runs the gamut from R&B to funk. Gutterball 3D does a good job of simulating a real bowling environment, giving you a first-person view of the lane just as if you were in an alley. You can switch among more than a dozen differently styled balls, and you can even alter the weight, speed, and spin of each one. The game lets you play on multiple alleys, from standard-looking lanes to wild psychedelic ones. You'll also find the ability to change commentator voices or disable them entirely if their heckling proves too much of a distraction. Even though you can use your mouse to direct the ball once it's en route, it's still not as easy as you might think to get a strike or a spare, which increases the game's addictiveness. Whether you're an avid bowler or not, chances are you'll really enjoy this title.
