"Gunbound Revolution: Nothing Revolutionary About It"

September 10, 2007  |  By El Erico

 |  Version: Gunbound Revolution 1

Pros

If you've never had the good fortune of playing Worms, in any way shape or game, then you'll probably think that Gunbound is the greatest thing since sliced bread. In Worms, the premise was to move your little worm, shoot a gun at an opposing worm, and hope to destroy him, all in one turn. Then, it was the opponent's turn, and he'd do the same. This would continue until one team prevailed.

Gunbound Revolution is the exact same thing, but with a bit of a twist. All of the vehicles you drive are unique in their own little way, and range from easy to handle, to absolutely impossible to handle. Many of the vehicles cater to various ranges of experience.

For example, Bigfoot caters heavily to newbies, because actually scoring a hit is easy. Doing big damage is difficult in exchange, however, but the missiles all dig up holes, making bunging (dropping opponents off the screen) easy in many of the stages where you're already hanging precariously over the bottom.

Raon Launcher caters to people a little more experienced to the game. This mobile is the best for bunging, and it's not particularly difficult to score big damage with this mobile, and landing hits takes a little more luck than Bigfoot.

On the other hand, mobiles like J Frog, Boomer or Kalsiddon cater more to advanced players, or people that are good at math (or people that hack), as landing hits with these mobiles are difficult, but the trickier the shot is, the more damage you're liable to do, making these mobiles the big damage dealers.

In order to deal any kind of damage, you have to pick a shot. Each mobile has three different types of shots: a basic shot that has low delay (these are often used to help you get an idea of what power you need to hit an opponent), a secondary shot that has higher delay (these are often used to do damage), and a super shot. Super shots range from incredibly useful/versatile, to 'Why even bother?'. Unfortunately, there are far too many that're the latter than the former, so it's best to stick to the first two shots.

Cons

But with all the unique features that sets this apart from other franchises, there are also obvious downsides. Though the mobiles aren't newbie friendly, this game isn't. While the servers limit players from entering by rank, allowing you to play against people with similar skill level, this game has a very shallow learning curve. You'll know what to do in only your first three hours of playing, and be playing on a level that betrays your rank.

So when you first log in, you're playing against people that are likely to completely annihilate you based on that simple premise. Whatever compels you to stick around past that, the game gets a little gentler once you learn the ropes.

Actually purchasing equipment for your avatar is impossible. The game eventually gives you a set of equipment for your character (just a hat and body armor, if I'm not mistaken), but this equipment is mediocre at best and pales in comparison to stuff you can buy. Getting the gold required to buy avatars is tedious, but the real clencher is that when you save up enough to buy a particular avatar piece..

You can only purchase it and use it for nine days.

Long gone are the days in the original Gunbound where you could actually KEEP the avatar piece you worked SO HARD to get. In exchange for that, gold prices on avatar items were reduced. The stat bonuses on any one particular piece of equipment is mediocre and not all that helpful, and you can never notice the difference these stat boosts make. Most avatar pieces are cosmetic at best.

Crazy are the people that actually give twenty, thirty dollars to pay for these pieces of avatar to get months worth of use out of it. Honestly, that's the best deal, but it's real money we're talking about, people. Nevermind buying food for the month, my Gold Armor is about to expire!

At the end of the day, Gunbound takes Worms and twists it into a playable game that's unique, fun and, at times, exciting. However, most smart people play Gunbound Revolution for a few weeks to a few months, and move on.

"The best game ever!"

February 25, 2007  |  By mincor3456

 |  Version: Gunbound Revolution 1

Pros

I've been playing for about 3 years and haven't stopped since... well... but it's great to play with your friends and gameplay is great

Cons

To many hackers and aimbotters they spoil the game... I have had a file for 2 years, and then in got hacked... I started playing again about 3 months ago. The buddy list sometimes doesn't work also, but rarely

"Great game, but support depends on which server you choose."

October 20, 2006  |  By skidoodles

 |  Version: Gunbound Revolution 1

Pros

The game is basically a different version of Worms (with you being one of the worms). You can buy avatar for adding to your stats, and there are several mobiles to choose from (with different attacks for each) for each game. Several maps, many factors (like wind) to consider before making your shot. Very involving.

Cons

BUT....

NHN USA doesn't have a very good customer support base. Beware--if you're hacked, you may not get any help. I don't know what they're doing there, but a lot of the time, your messages go unanswered. Some "customer care".

Try the International Gunbound instead. (Gunbound Revolution is based in USA.) Same game (hosted by the developers themselves), better support.

"best game i ever downloaded!"

September 26, 2006  |  By htennekesahc

 |  Version: Gunbound Revolution 1

Pros

I've been playing this game for a few years, and i can't stop playing, i am hooked to this game, the graphics on this version are awesome, the music is awesome, the list of avatars are awesome, everything about this game is awesome, i love it!

Cons

It takes for ever to download on my connection (Dial-up). Avatar prices need to go down (money and gold), single player mode is not that important to me, i don't care about it, but it needs to be added. More items need to be added (some examples of available items are teleport, heal, and duel), more mobiles and more hidden mobiles should be added, more areas (maps) should be added, free avatar items should be added.
