True to its name, this popular and affordable app's main functionality is converting graphic files--importing from some 200 formats and exporting to about 80 at last count, with a tremendously time-saving batch processor thrown in for good measure. But GraphicConverter also proves invaluable as a high-speed image editor that lets you quickly browse, resize, sharpen, adjust color, and optimize for the Web, all at a price that makes commercial packages blush.

GraphicConverter's interface hasn't quite kept up with its ever-growing feature set (and many of its most useful features can be accessed outside of the app anyway, through contextual menus), but what this app lacks in simplicity it more than makes up for with copious features. The app also includes extensive documentation, and the program's uber-diligent programmer (whom even Apple has called "one of the most conscientious developers in the shareware universe") provides frequent fixes and updates. Recent changes have included the ability to view images in a "digital light room" browser mode, a completely rewritten backend for support of 64-bit, added support for large images with more than 16,000 X 16,000 pixels, and many more fixes and minor feature enhancements.

If you're looking for a low-cost way to make quick edits to images or batch convert to other formats, this app is a no-brainer for Mac.

"terrific from the start"

December 12, 2009  |  By waldstille

 |  Version: GraphicConverter 6.6

Pros

It does everything I can think of wanting it to do and more.
The great update policy (you get a lot of new versions without being asked to pay for updates).

Cons

There is nothing I don't like about this product.

Summary

It is the most useful program I have used for photos. It is clear and easy enough to use, even though it is rich in features. It is the one program I wouldn't want to do without as long as I've got photos in my computer.

"Like the earlier versions - it's a terrific program!!"

December 12, 2009  |  By akmet

 |  Version: GraphicConverter 6.6

Pros

Ease of use and flexiblity. I'm not a power user. I usu. just want JPEG formats, or enlargements, or 'excerpts' & GC delivers w/out fuss.

Cons

When original is v. small... cant always enlarge as much as I want - probably impossible to do. Also, I'd like the stored jpg file to show the pix instead of the generic icon. I can often pick out the pix I want to open, if I can see even tiny 1s

Summary

Like it lots. Use it often. Will keep updating even if I never use all of its features.

"The graphic file management program that rules them all"

December 11, 2009  |  By pjmacl

 |  Version: GraphicConverter 6.6

Pros

Opens and saves to virtually every graphics file format out there. Absolutely constant updates to add formats, add even more features, deal with OS changes etc.

Cons

This program focusses on functionality more than elegance, but its capabilities far outweigh any perceived lack of eye candy.

Summary

EVERY Mac user should have, and pay for, this indispensable piece of amazing shareware. It solves format problems that can't be solved any other way.
