"Great for beginners & newbies & professionals"
Version: GoldWave 5.23
Pros
Has all the bells & whistles to do a really great audio edit. The manual (online) is an education all by itself. The smart trial of 1500 edits lets you play, make mistakes, try all the stuff that's there over many months (it took me 8 months of trial & error) before you buy it. The price is reasonable too. Couldn't find any bugs or annoying stuff either during that time.

"Excelent!"

Pros
I used this program a lot at church for recording various things. It works very well and the recordings are very clear. It will even run on crappier computers than it says it will.
Cons
It isn't free :(

"A useful editing and processing tool for linguists"
Version: GoldWave 5.23
Pros
I have used Goldwave for a number of years now to process and prepare language tapes for use on minidiscs and MP3 players.
Goldwave allows me to digitise my language cassettes fairly readily. I can then easily cut the tapes up into manageable learning segments and give each segment a unique title. This means that navihation on portable listening equipment can be brisk and efficient.
I also use Goldwave to process language [and music tapes] in batches.
My current iPod is not loud enough for my ears - so I use Goldwave to convert music files into an MP3 format - and at the same time enhance the volume of the file to create the loudest listening experience.
Goldwave will also remove the hiss from old cassette tapes - but this is not always the most satisfactory solution. [Goldwave can leave the audio with a 'boxy' texture]
