GlobalPreferencesLocker helps avoiding kernel panics on logout as discussed on the Apple Discussion Board.
The logout kernel panic bug:
Usually only portable Macs with Mac OS X 10.2.x are affected because the bug seems to be associated with the ADB drivers which are used for the trackpad of iBooks and PowerBooks.
Further investigation and testing showed that kernel panics on logout can be avoided if entries for mouse and trackpad settings are removed in the hidden ".GlobalPreferences.plist" file located at ~/Library/Preferences/.
Having a ".GlobalPreferences.plist" without any entries for mouse and/or trackpad settings.
Usage of GlobalPreferencesLocker:
- DELETE your original ".GlobalPreferences.plist". - Set up a new ".GlobalPreferences.plist". - In order to disable the entry of mouse/trackpad settings you can LOCK the new ".GlobalPreferences.plist" file. - UNLOCK the ".GlobalPreferences.plist" file to save additional settings.
Every successful file modification will provide an acoustic feedback (e.g. "Global Preferences Locked!").
Settings made with a locked ".GlobalPreferences.plist" file will be reset to default after a restart.
