"Ginger destroyed all of the text on my laptop screen."
Version: Ginger Grammar and Spell Checker 2.7.160
Pros
Ginger was very good had fixing my grammar & punctuation issues, but the cons out-way the pro's by far.
Cons
Please read my summery below. Ginger ruined the text on my laptop screen. Ginger made all of the text on my screen to go extremely shaky & unreadable. Not just text that I'd written, but ALL TEXT that appears on my screen!
I have no doubt that Ginger caused this problem because my laptop is new & the problem occurred from the very second that I downloaded the free trial of Ginger. So, I uninstalled Ginger, but the problem didn't go away. All text on my screen is still extremely shaky & unreadable at least 50% 0f the time. At the start the problem occurred about 80% of the time, but it seems to happen less now. Its more like 50% of the time now, ether that or else I've just gotten used to it?!
My laptop is ruined. :(
Please read my summary below for more information.
Thank-you!Summary
Ginger ruined my laptop. It did work well for grammar & punctuation, but it totally messed up the screen on my Laptop. :( My laptop is new & its a really good laptop. Ginger caused all the text (ie. writing/typed words/anything written/comments/etc) to appear really shaky & unreadable. So, I uninstalled Ginger, but that didn't fix the problem. The writing on my screen is still shaky & unreadable most of the time.
Sometimes it helps if I press the plus (+) button to make the writing on the screen bigger. Then I find the text on the screen is not quite as shaky, but that doesn't always work. Sometimes I move the page up & down quickly with the arrows over & over again. This can help a bit, but after a while the text appears shaky & unreadable again.
I am totally gutted about this, my laptop is ruined. :( So, I uninstalled Ginger thinking this would fix the problem, but it didn't! My friend is extremely knowledgeable about computers, so he double checked & made sure ginger was uninstalled & it was.Yet the shaky unreadable text was still there.
I have no doubt whatsoever that Ginger caused this problem with my laptop. My laptop was new & in PERFECT working order until I installed Ginger, but from the minute I installed Ginger the text on my laptop became really shaky & unreadable.
I will say that the text is not always shaky & unreadable, but at least 50% of the time the problem occurs. It is a total nightmare & I'm gutted that my laptop is ruined.
I wish the problem hadn't occurred because my grammar & punctuation isn't great & Ginger really did help me to check everything that I wrote, but now I've had to uninstall Ginger. 50% of the time I can barely read what is written on my laptop screen.
My advice to people is DON'T download Ginger until Ginger find a solution to this dreadful problem.
P.S. If anyone else had & similar problem & managed to fix it I'd be very grateful for an advice. I downloaded Ginger about three months ago and I uninstalled it after 2 days. So, I've been living with this problem for the last three months. I'd be grateful for any advice. I could sent screen shots of the shaky unreadable test if that would help?
Thank-you! -

Thought it was going to be good because it had the editors choice review but it is a piece of crap. I still can't get the icon of my desktop because I have uninstalled this it is giving me an unauthorized error message when I try to delete the icon. Load of crap.

"Tedious installation; intrusive; not useful"
Version: Ginger Grammar and Spell Checker 2.7.160
Pros
None that I could see
Cons
Tedious installation; intrusive; not useful
Summary
I was testing this out for someone on a forum I'm on who is just starting out with writing for the 'net and has trouble with grammar, spelling, etc. I found a lot of online spell checkers but they weren't enough; the reviews here looked promising.
This was another 2-step download, which in itself is a pain; add to that the stuff I had to turn off manually (TIP: DO A CUSTOM INSTALLATION or you will have unwanted toolbars and other nonsense to deal with later) *and* the Firefox add-on I found out I had to install too and this was not an easy process.
I didn't really need Ginger to work in its "contextual" mode; I use a text editor almost exclusively and when I do open a word processor it's Works' version, which Ginger isn't compatible with. All I wanted was something I could paste some text into that it would check - not just for spelling but also grammar, punctuation, etc., because I thought that was what the other person would be doing. I did manage to access the online version but all it did was open a tiny window that wasn't resizable, and when I pasted in the text it checked only spelling. There are plenty of other sites that will do that - without the hassle of installation. And it says right at the top of this page that this is a "Grammar and Spell Checker."
Thinking maybe it just had a steeper learning curve that I needed to get through, I was going to play around with it some more. But the next time I encountered it was when I was working with a spreadsheet; I hit F2 to change some data and instead got a popup box saying Ginger wasn't compatible. That wasn't the first time I'd seen that message - when I'd opened the Works word processor right after I'd installed Ginger just as a test to see if it would work there I got that message. But in the spreadsheet it wouldn't let me get out of it to make the change I wanted. That was enough for me; I've uninstalled it. And now I have to uninstall the Firefox add-on too. -

"piece of crap!"
Version: Ginger Grammar and Spell Checker 2.7.160
Pros
None at all.
Cons
Didn't work, and it screwed with all of my internet options. I had to unnstall 3 different programs to get it off my computer. My home pages are still messed up. If you are going to install this garbage, read the contract, and make sure you don't let them install anything extra.
Summary
Still looking for a good grammar checker.
