"It works ! Pretty simple once you RTFM."
Version: GetDataBack Data Recovery 3.3
Pros
Simple interface, mostly automatic operation. Read the manual and it works better than if you click and hope. I recovered the vast majority of my files from a drive that registered as unformatted, and wouldn't boot or read at all through Windows.
Cons
There's 80 cons. $80. Seems steep for a single program, but since it works, they are forgiven. I just wish for that money that you got some of the other programs they offer as well. They do offer upgrades for the money, so in the long run....
Summary
I tried about 10 different programs to try to recover my files. About half of them failed to even read the drive at all. It's very nice that you get to try out the demo program and verify that it does indeed find all your files, before you shell out the money. In the end, it recovered most, if not all of my files, file names and directory tree intact. This was some sort of a NTFS corruption as the disk test passed every time, and was not simply a lost partition, deleted files, or accidental format. In all I'm quite happy with the results. I didn't realize until I came back to do the review that newer versions are available, don't use this version, go find version 4. The registration code you buy works for both, but why not use the newest version.

"This program rocks!"
Version: GetDataBack Data Recovery 3.3
Pros
After a power outage our second hard drive which we use for data storage was no longer recognized by Windows - no files, no folders, no pictures, no music, nothing. Since I was out of town, my wife decided to re-format the drive to see if it could still be used. Then she copied some of our photos off of a CD onto the drive to prove it would work and left the rest up to me when I got home. Having little hope, I started GetDataBack and went to bed while it began scanning our 160GB drive. Next morning it showed a huge list of recoverable files. I told it to recover them (to our main Windows C: drive in My Documents). Later we went through the recovered files. As far as we could tell everything was there except for two photos - yes, just two! - and one garbled music track. In additon, it recovered some photos and documents we had deleted over six months before. We were suitably impressed .....
Cons
It may take hours and hours to scan a large drive.

"Not good for recover .doc , xls , jpg files from cluster."
Version: GetDataBack Data Recovery 3.3
Cons
I have rescued a lot of .doc , .xls , .jpg and other files that have been stores automaticly as Cluster files. I assumed I could get my files back to the original but the program did not help me out with that .
Could it be that I have used the wrong program ?
