"Good concept, but the software misses it's target goals"
Version: Genie Timeline Professional 3.0.1.200
Pros
It DOES perform a timeline backup.
Backup DOES work without much disturbance.
It's concept allows for simplicity and user friendliness.
Genie provides good end-user support.
Nice user interface.Cons
It is a very dangerous tool. It does not a good job, due to the following reasons:
- When you have multiple users on the same PC, it will only perform a backup of the files of the user the backup is installed for.
- Intelligent backup is dangerous. It will only backup the files with the extensions you request. The list of extensions is not complete.
- As a result, it consumes your backup drive space with files you don't want. Intelligent backup works for ALL your connected drives, even the xTB drives which you don't want to have included.
- There is an 'exclude from backup' function in the tool, but it is hidden, not user friendly.
- Recover sometimes fails for a number of files without reason. The tool crashes when recovering, and you have to restart.
- The "system recovery" option does not do a good job, and it is VERY SLOW.
- Files are spread out over the backup library between the "intelligent backup", and the "selective backup". ConfusingSummary
I am a registered user for 2 years, and have purchased 3 licenses. I would advise to consider very well the cons when doing a backup.

"DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME"
Version: Genie Timeline Professional 3.0.1.200
Pros
The interface is pretty, easy to use and makes you FEEL good.
Cons
You think your data is being backed-up but in reality it likely is likely not.
Summary
I'm not a technical expert but when I back up my drives (in my case mirror drives with no compression) I expect the destination drive to utilize the same file space as the primary drive. I have multiple drives both internal and external. In EVERY case while using Genie Timeline Pro my back-up file size did not match up originating file size. At that, it was not always the same percentage mismatch. BOTTOM LINE: I did not trust this software. When it comes to protecting data, TRUST IS EVERYTHING. I promptly removed it from my system. I found Super Flexible File Synchronizer to be a far superior product...which I ended up purchasing.

"Took it off my system"
Version: Genie Timeline Professional 3.0.1.200
Pros
Works quietly in the background.
Cons
crashed every time I tried to specify files to backup. Lots of attempts to resolve problems with support but to no avail. Hogged a whole terabyte disc and keeps filling it without any way to limit size of backup or apparently any way to limit useage
Summary
Regretfully dumped it off my system having bought it. Spent hours trying to make it work.

"Are you kidding me??? 680MB memory consumption???"
Version: Genie Timeline Professional 2.1.13.345
Pros
Interface ok, lots of nice features. The smart backup seems to be a good low performance silent backup.
Cons
This bloatware consumed well over half a Gig of memory!!
As others stated, it does not backup every file, missed almost 10% on my backup.
Ended with a fatal error, no explanation in logs as to why.Summary
I downloaded and installed the trial version. I didn't like the fact that it forced me to turn on "Terminal Services" in order for the service to run. I thought Terminal Services were only needed for remote control of the system??? Anyway, potential security risk in my opinion.
So after starting the program, first impressions? It immediately forced me to run through a wizard to configure and start a backup. No option to just go to a main control center or dash board to manually configure options, no advanced mode. They must think all of their users are idiots. Personally, I despise wizards, they take away control from the user and often miss important options.
The wizard-implemented settings start a backup, and I stop it soon afterwards when I realize it's not backing up what I want. No surprise there. Finally I'm able to get to some real configuration and options. The interface isn't intuitive, I had to jump back and forth between pages containing glossy buttons and cryptic settings. Finally I get a backup running in "Smart Mode", which is the silent backup option. This seemed to work ok, fairly non-intrusive.
It ran through the night, and then the next morning I was welcomed with a fatal error popup. No log events describing what happened, just the service crashed. It stated it completed 95% of the files, however when I inspected the files it actually backed up, many of the directories were half empty. This is similar to what others have been saying. I would say between 10% - 15% of the files weren't there. Yes, it did crash and only get to "95%", but I'm confident based on how things looked that even if it finished it would still have missed lots of files.
And then, oi, there's the memory consumption. When I checked Task Manager to see what it was using, there were half a dozen processes running consuming a whopping 680 Meg of memory!!! Either there is a nasty memory leak in the software, or the developers think everyone out there has their own personal Deep Blue system running at home.
One last feature that's missing for me, no option to do a full disk image. Yes you can do the disaster recovery, but not a full disk or partition image. I keep my OS running on a separate SSD drive and only have system files on there. You can't restore directly from a file-by-file backup, I want to have a real image. So, a gap there for me.
Their website I downloaded from said they were having a 24-hour 50% off sale and I was so tempted to just buy it on the spot. Fortunately, common sense and experience kicked in and I did the trial first. Glad I did or I'd be stuck with an unstable bloatware product.
