"Good concept, but the software misses it's target goals"
Version: Genie Timeline Home 3.0.1.200
Pros
It DOES perform a timeline backup.
Backup DOES work without much disturbance.
It's concept allows for simplicity and user friendliness.
Genie provides good end-user support.
Nice user interface.Cons
It is a very dangerous tool. It does not a good job, due to the following reasons:
- When you have multiple users on the same PC, it will only perform a backup of the files of the user the backup is installed for.
- Intelligent backup is dangerous. It will only backup the files with the extensions you request. The list of extensions is not complete.
- As a result, it consumes your backup drive space with files you don't want. Intelligent backup works for ALL your connected drives, even the xTB drives which you don't want to have included.
- There is an 'exclude from backup' function in the tool, but it is hidden, not user friendly.
- Recover sometimes fails for a number of files without reason. The tool crashes when recovering, and you have to restart.
- The "system recovery" option does not do a good job, and it is VERY SLOW.
- Files are spread out over the backup library between the "intelligent backup", and the "selective backup". ConfusingSummary
I am a registered user for 2 years, and have purchased 3 licenses. I would advise to consider very well the cons when doing a backup.

"Watch out if you already paid for the Home 2.0 version"
Version: Genie Timeline Home 3.0.1.200
Pros
* Fairly easy install.
* Database conversion from Home 2.0 to 2012 took awhile but executed okay.Cons
* Slowed down my aging XP considerably.
* Couldn't prove it, but seemed to the source of occasional crashes, both the Home 2.0 version and the 2012 version.
* After downloading & installing the 2012 version, Genie wanted to pick my pocket for the pleasure of the "upgrade". Nothing on CNET indicated the differential cost of moving to 2012 for previous ownerns of Home 2.0
* Not sure how (or if?) I can downgrade / retro back to Home 2.0 if I don't want to pay for the upgrade to 2012.Summary
Be careful about downloading the newest version of Genie's products. Without advising you they will want you to pay for the new version even if you purchased the Home 2.0 version.

"Backup software with "timeline" avant-garde feature."
Version: Genie Timeline Home 2.1.6.321
Pros
"Timeline" feature which allows you to restore multiple time versions of a given file or folder,a beautiful interface, ease of use, powerful features, low or unnoticeable use of system resources and trustworthy backups plus excellent customer support.
Cons
I don't like processes running in the background interfering with resources---although I have to be frank that I have not noticed any appreciable use with Genie Timeline.
Summary
Genie Timeline Home 2.1 is not your everyday backup software, it has a unique feature un found in the competition and that is the ability to monitor your chosen backup files on a continuous basis and it has the "GenieTimeline" restore feature by which through a simple inter phase you can literally choose the time and date of a file you wish to restore, "that's like a magic restore".
All the above, plus much, much more gives this vanguard option unprecedented value and functionality not found in the competition. -
"Great program, very easy and fast way to do backups"
Version: Genie Timeline Home 2.1.3.316
Pros
very easy to use, backup jobs are only 3 steps to setup, do not need to open the program all the time right click through windows will do everything, Turbo mode
Cons
Nothing to dislike about the program up until now it is running smoothly.
Summary
I like the product because it does what its supposed to do with very little effort from me, i did not need to learn anything or read manuals, it is very fast running in turbo mode, and the user interface is very easy and friendly. It would be nice if I can create more than one continuous backup job.

"Very disappointing when compared to their hype"
Version: Genie Timeline Home 2.1.2.312
Pros
Easy to set and run. Or so it seems at first.
Cons
(1) Only backs up your C drive....and after awhile. not even that..(2) Lists files it can't back up but does not explain or troubleshoot. Problem files are docs & settings, rendering itself useless for total restore purposes.
Summary
Promises 10 ...Delivers 0-5 depending on your HD config and the luck of the draw. Hope they fix their free version. If not, why pay for the upgrade?
