"One of the best image editing programs around!!"
Pros: Ever since I discovered this product(which was some year ago), I've been extremely amazed about it. Who ever knew that some free open-source product can match up to Adobe Photoshop? Actually, for me, GIMP is better than Photoshop because of the price; ease of use; user-friendliness; and lots of other features. Really amazing. Get this now!!
Cons: The interface is really not that good. Why can't it just stay in one window, not seperate ones? It makes stuff odd. And the installer.. why can't it include the GTK+ Environment already? Anyway, besides those.. this program is the tops!

Version: GIMP 2.2.7
"The most easy-to-use image-editing app!"
Pros: It has an intuitive interface, very easy-to-use, has excellent effects (though I wish I could add more), feature-rich, and free too. This is so great! This great app deserves at least $40 or more cash for its greatness. There are also many people who use it so whenever you need support, you can find lots. It's also open-source in the GNU Public License, so it would be great for developers. It is also very customizable, you can make it anything you want. It can also be an image viewer. Get it now!
Cons: Its interface is intuitive, but it would be better if they kept it in one window like Paint Shop Pro. And about the GTK+ Runtime Environment, it would be better if they merged the installer of it in the GIMP's installer.

Version: GIMP 2.4.2
"Good but with a few downfalls"
Pros: I would really recommend this product for users who do not have Adobe Photoshop or can't pay for an image editing program. The GIMP requires GTK RunTime Environment to run, and it always comes with the installer without any intrusive and hoggy problems like Java. The GIMP is very small, and very easy to use. It clones Adobe Photoshop's interface and also has various image editing tools. Not intrusive, very light on resources, and it does everything without the clutter, and the installation when by smoothly.
Cons: Although this program works like Photoshop, it is missing a lot of features and also has minor crashes. It also isn't as popular so getting brushes and patterns for this program will be more challenging.

Version: GIMP 2.2.13
"powerful yet at a free price."
Pros: a extremely powerful image editor. with layer and vast range of graphic format support, over 100 built-in filter effects(special effects), image coverting, all the basic tools like cropping, rotate/flip, pencil, brush, etc. to more professional tools like magic wand, blur/sharp and much much more. but that's just the start, buried deeply in this applications menu and floating tool bars is a dozen of expert sets of configuration tools to fix/retouch even the best of all images. it can make professional looking 3D images or animations in just minutes under a master users hand. it is truly the most powerful imaging program amongest photoshop and other heavily priced products.
Cons: the only thing about this application people are complaining about is it's not aimed for novices. average computer user would find this program very hard to use due to the lack of friendly interface, too advanced/complex features and no built-in tutorial or help files. paint.net is a very good alternative to gimp for the ease of use and just enought feature for standare users.
